Parts come in Tuesday or Wed for sure. So by Wed you will have my pointful review. For DAW people and even video rendering people.

At first Im going to run stock speeds and enable turbo,,, I want it to settle in nicely first. Then after 2 weeks or so if its stable then OC begins.. I wanna take the BLCK to 120

I bought the 3 parts yesterday,, saturday.. they charged tax,,,,, so Im thinking their in Cali like me. So it might even come tuesday, but I think wed... for sure. So by wed I will be behind my new rig, cant wait.

Also Im just going to connect all the drives and the SSD and power up the new rig,, will it boot right into windows 8 ????

Or will I get a BSOD or crash ?

I really need it to work... OR can I do a repair install ? or should I go into safe mode, alto I have no idea how to go into safe mode on Win8 .....thx gl

Is your windows 8 transferable or locked to your old rig? You can't just take your OS drive and plug it into a different mobo + cpu and expect it to work you know.

On a side note, do you have a repeatable test you can run on the old rig and the new one instead of just going by "oh the new one feels faster".

How do you get into safe mode on Win8 ? I heard you can go in there and it will boot up,,,,,, into safe mode,,,,,,,, then wait until its done putting in devices, and reboot to nromal mode and your safe. So Puppies04 you don't think it will work this way ?

Do try to just swap the hard drive to your new system cold turkey. Probably won't work, but it is painless if it does work.

You might have to sysprep your system. You will lose of customized settings if you use sysprep.

Ouch Puppies04 I didn't want to hear that.

So what maybe safe mode so it finds devices clean then normal mode see if it works..

If it was me I would format my OS drive so I knew there wasn't going to be any compatibility problems down the line. I take it there is some reason you don't want to do this? Could you not just start from scratch on a formatted drive and install windows and your programs fresh?

If you are using a SSD you could also update the bios on it if your current one isn't up to date because if your SSD is anything like mine the update process is destructive so you can't do it while you have data on the drive (well you can but you lose the data).

You could try just plugging the OS drive in to see if it works but keep in mind if your copy of windows is locked to 1 machine a mobo + cpu upgrade will almost certainly count as a new machine and windows will be locked.

Lol did I miss something? Where is the review like the title said?

You are way better off just starting I fresh is install. I know its going to be a pita but it will be worth it.

The reason I cant because my DAW audio collection is 150GB and I have to reinstall all that stuff one by one,,,, I used to format and install a lot with XP ,,, a little with Vista,, but when I went to 7 in march 2010 I never looked back until Win8 came out. My system is good to go, I dont have it in me to do all that over again. Perhaps if it doesn't boot up I do a REPAIR INSTALL ,,,,,, then it will find the devices no ? But still Im gonna try cold turkey , just plug it and boot up,,,, if it goes into windows I will be the happiest man in the world.

Can you not just copy the DAW stuff to another drive then drag it back to your (C:) drive after you install windows?

It will give errors you cant just copy over without the registry keys ..none of the plugins will work most probably.

Well well find out on tuesday or wed... if this is possible, if not Id like to go into safe mode,,,, how you get into sfae mode in 8 what key it is ? htx

yes you can. windows isn't near as unstable or device dependent as people around here seem to think.

changing video card brands is more difficult than changing cpu vendors.

seriously.

I would do a fresh install. Didn't you get an SSD as well ? If you are moving a windows install from a mechanical drive to an SSD I think it will be problematic.

It's worth the misery of the fresh install imo. Or you could try using sysprep I guess.

Ya tset is Sonar X2 Producer , everything is fast except synths take a lot of resources.. I have a kontakt steinway grand piano and when I play classical on it it goes to cup use 100 perceny and turns red and shuts off my system. I clipped Sonar with one synth,,,,,, soo a new CPU Im getting is 10000000000x more powerful , so that 100 percent if IMbanging on 20 keys at same time will be only 5 percent IM guessing.......

Exactly. If he's lucky, all he has to do is remove the propriety drivers and and install generic drivers.
