current rig is a x2 4200, 2GB pc3200, 2x 15k u320 scsi, x1800xt and xp pro. running tversity to a 360 via cat5e cable so no network issues.

the highest resolution i can set tversity for is ~400x300 (going to try 500x300 here shortly) and have it transcode xvid and divx in real time without an issue. anybody know how high i can go w/ a 939 4200?

or how much cpu i need to get at least 720x480 in real time without hiccups?

i have a few machines and can sell some of my older ones or replace my home server for more transcoding power as the 4200 is fine for what i do, just not enough for the transcoding.

also, how does tversity scale w/ quads?

or, does anybody know if the 360 is going to support xvid, divx and h/x264 anytime soon?

thanks in advance,
bob

The 360 supports H264. However, it is still picky amongst that codec.

Your computer will transcode fine with a 720x480 output.

I have a 939 3500+ with 1GB of ram and my computer handles transcoding divx/xvid files on the fly and outputting them at 1080x720 just fine.

Just be sure the file you're transcoding isn't too high of a quality (i.e. HD resolution).

Something is wrong as I used TVersity for a long time and had no problem outputting higher resolutions than you are seeing with a 3200+ with 1GB.

Hopefully it will all be worked out with the fall update or soon after if they actually do include divx/xvid support. Only time will tell (or a press release).

even at the lower resolutions both cores are pegged @ ~ 100% usage. is there a way to maybe set a config file that offers more options than the gui tversity has for caching?

the movies i have tried so far are ~ 650x280 resolutions, so not anything hd, just like letterbox dvd or so.

is there a certain way to install everything? i tried again @ 720x480 and still no go.... :(

went ahead and installed it on my home server - it never had wmp on it, so got wmp11, then ffdshow (newest release) then tversity and still the same issue, 400x300 is safe but 720x480 is a no go. this machine is a x2 3800 w/ 1GB pc3200 and a couple large pata/sata 7.2k hdds.

can the people that had it working let me know what codecs you were/are using? the ffdshow or the klite distribution?

thanks in advance

I use the K-Lite Codec Pack. Do you run anything int he background while streaming?

my main machine has the normal - anti vir, zone alarm, and a couple other items running but when the machine is sitting idle, it shows ~2% cpu usage.

same w/ the home server - running really lite on it - anti-vir, and a couple other servers but nothing that is getting hit hard or using much ram, i am under my physical amount of ram on both machines all the time, when not running anything cpu usage shows 0-1% most of the time

when streaming i am in a different room so all the machines are doing is streaming. i have checked the network and that is on a 1GbE connection and that cable has been tested to over 45MB/s, but the 360 is only 100Mb/s, so it has 10MB/s easy of network capacity

tomorrow i will try the k-lite setup and see how else it turns out.

thanks for all the assitance thus far :)

went ahead and installed the klite pack and it does do quite a bit better, but not real time w/ 720x480, so still not sure what the deal is....but will keep on trying

I have a Tversity question as well... I cannot get my 360 to "see" the Tversity server. If I go through WMP11 and share the 360, everything's fine, it all plays nicely, I can access my (supported) media. But if I disable that and try Tversity, nothing I do will make the 360 connect.

I admit I'm not great at routers, but I know how to open the required port, I've read the startup and troubleshooting pages on the Tversity site, as well as checked all the "360 problem" forum posts, and a few other articles on the program (like Tweaktown's guide)... and I'm just very frustrated. I really don't want to have to transcode my video files "manually"... half the reason I got the 360 was for media streaming.

Oh, yeah, I just got my 360 (Elite), and Bioshock and am having a great time with that aspect....what a great game!

Anyway, if anyone had problems with Tversity, or has any tips, I'd appreciate any help.

Thanks.
