TV tuners that you can use with game consoles?

Are there any TV tuners that work properly (update the screen fast enough) to work with game consoles? I got the ATI 650 but the lag makes it impossible to use with a console, so it's in my other machine I use for recording stuff.

Anyone who has any experience with Tuners and can test this out, be much appreciated.. specifically: action games. I do a lot of action gaming and lag would just kill the experience for me.

It tends to be the software more often than the card that slows playback down. What software are you using? MPC works nice and quick with my 550.

I had an ATI AIW card where the ATI software had the lag. I used amcap, and there was no problem.

Race, culture, ethnicity, w/e. Still a pejorative slur although it seems innocent enough to those that don't know its etymology. Chances are slim you'd actually run into someone who would be personally offended by the use of the word, you just might get a double-take from those that do know its origins, same as some of the other slurs used above. In any case to those who now know, use at your own discretion.

PCI tuner/videograbber cards are inherently lag free, because they're purely realtime data converters with just a few microseconds worth of buffer. Lag occurs further down the pipe - if the card has an MPEG encoder, if the viewing application does any fancy image "enhancements" using algorithms that span multiple frames, and finally if the graphics card does similar things to its video overlay surface.

If you just let the hardware pipe the image straight from the grabber card to the video overlay on the graphics card, it'll be at most a frame or two behind - and that's no worse than any LCD TV can possibly do.

Wulll, back to the matter at hand . . .

Are there any TV tuners that work properly (update the screen fast enough) to work with game consoles?

If I understand what you are asking - In the overwhelming majority: Yes.

Most PC tuner cards leave the video output to the video card. To the best of my knowledge ATI is the only company that makes tuner/video card combos.

If you are using the ATI component dongle s-video connection I'm not sure what you can do - other than the recommendations above.

If that 650 has cablecard I'll gladly purchase it from you. :D

I'm using the regular ATI software, so I should try different software then? do you really think it will help? I thought it had to do with it delaying the update to the monitor?

Well mine isn't, it must be the ATI multimedia app, or driver issues possibly? I'm using an ATI PCI 650 with an 8800 GTS... I'll try finding some other apps.

Yup ... ChrisTV can do the straight-through mode. Now use the NVidia control panels to tune back on any fancy video overlay post-processing (if any), and voilà, you've got the lag down to absolute minimum.

Which TV tuner is the best in regards to image quality and responsiveness then? From people here most TV tuner's should be able to do what the OP wants with the correct software.

Like I said - it has to be PCI not USB (PCIE will do too), and it has to be without an onboard MPEGizer (or have the capability to bypass it).

If you're going to feed it a video signal from a console, tuner quality doesn't even matter. You want to avoid the ancient Bt8x8 series chips, get something with a newer Conexant 23xxx or a Philips 713x series chip. You'll get better contrast and color gamut from these.

look, when I just came to america I would call this one guy who was black boy when we got into arguments because I meant to insinuate he is childish and immature... Instead I was making a racial slur unknowingly. Everyone else took it as me making racial slurs, I just didn't realize it. So I thought I will enlighten the OP about this point.

Misspelling gypped as gipped (and I misspelled it as jyped) doesn't matter.
And the "race vs culture vs ethnicity" status of gypsies is irrelevant.
And the argument everyone uses it... well 50 years ago everyone used the word n*gger. (and when I typed it here the forum software deleted it automatically so I had to edit it in incomplete)

The point is its a slur, not a word. When you say it you are diverting attention from the fact you got ripped off, and instead are primarily making the point that gypsies are all thieves. Just as if you would have said "I got jewed" (has the exact same meaning as gypped FYI)

Although whether it offends gypsy's or not, it still is a commonly accepted word..plus I'm sure if there were any gypsy's on the board they could always speak out and say they didn't like the word and get an apology...?

Plus...n*gger is also a commonly accepted word..............as long as you're black as well...

Anyway!.... I never knew there was software to allow TV playback on a games console... I'll have to look up ChrisTV... thanks for the info...
