TV Tuner Software

I've been getting fed up with MCE 2005 lately(all up to date) and I want to get software (freeware or something I'll pay for) that is low on resources and will give me decent quality to record TV shows. Ideally I would like to run it on x64 seeing that the drivers for my hardware now are much more compatible and have progressed. I'm trying to stay away from the ATI software being its somewhat slow and bloated and just has never worked right for me.

Have you tried Mediaportal or GB-PVR? Those are the 2 free ones I know of for Windows. I am trying out Mediaportal right now. Looks very promising.

I was refferred to GB-PVR an another forum, it seemed the link was down, but I'll try again. How is mediaportal resource wise?

edit: also what OS are you running?

I've been checking out mediaportal's website, it looks extremely promising, I'm currently settingup x64 now due to the need to ditch MCE '05.

I'm using Windows XP Pro. I have it installed on my older machine, which is an old 1.4 Ghz Athlon. The requirements say that is the minimum, but it is running pretty well so far. I may get a little more RAM for it though (I have 512 MB now).

Anyone know of any software just for watching tv quickly? There are a lot of PVR solutions, but I haven't found anything just for watching and the software with all the cards I've ever had has been pretty awful.

I've been in the same situation for some time and I tried the following programs:

SageTV 5.0 trial
Beyond TV 4.2 trial
PowerCinema 4.0
GB PVR
DScaler
MediaPortal (which seems to have a very slow channel shift)

and probably a few others

I ended up using GB PVR, as I could get a XMLTV grabber for Denmark to work fairly easy with this. It records in good quality with my Sapphire 550 pro.

It was really a hazzle to get everything working in the different programs.

I haven't tried winDVR but I'll give it a try when I get home.
