TV Tuner for a notebook

Can you experts recommend me a good value TV tuner that I can use for my notebook (external thru USB or thru that notebook slot)? What kind of price range am I looking for for a decent one?

that is just a capture unit i believe it wouldn't work for his use... if he just wants to plug his cable line into an accutal TV tuner.

The TV402U has a coaxial cable TV input on the back so you can plug in your cable TV wire and watch/record it.

The M402U is what you're thinking of that doesn't have a coaxial cable TV input.

I highly recommend the Hauppauge units... they are awesome!!! i use their PCI line in all the desktops i have and build.

I am going to use the PVR350 in my new box... (though the PVR500 with dual tuners is looking nice if i put MCE on the box... (though i am not a fan of MCE lol, so i am thinking of just going with the 350.)
 
Just because I want to put some input... I wanted the exact same thing only about 2 years ago, back then there wasn't much available for usb 2.0. I found a venture one on ebay by kworld, bought it for $100. I have to say, I was kindof dissappointed with the performance, nothing like the old onboard pci tuners, but what can you expect? Although maybe they improved something over the years.

I don't recommend the K-world usb 2.0 tv tuner.
 
These are good for TV watching and capture but note they have too much lag to be good for using a game console with your laptop.

Would I be able to plug in a console to the box and play games on the laptop screen without lag?
 
CompUSA has a pcm-cia tuner card for about $60. Might be easier to haul around....you could just leave it plugged in.

Almost certainly not..... I don't know of any video tuner that is going to let you do that. 🙁

What would be the noticable difference of that one you chose and this one

hardware encoding performed on the tuner board vs. software encoding performed by your CPU (making it pretty well crippled while you are watching video)
