If you dont download/copy for the purpose of making profit i see nothing wrong with it

I find nothing wrong with downloading television shows. They make DVD-Recorders that can do this and sell these recorders for anyone to use. Tivo does this. The same amount of revenue is generated from advertistments (unless you're one of the extremely few households that determine a show's ratings). No one is losing anything.

If you want to make the "loss advertisement revenue" then don't even bother until you do some more research on Nielsen Ratings and how you probably don't effect them.

No one loses any money when you download television shows. If you have basic cable, then it should be free game for you to download those television shows, too.

Ironically im watching a downloaded TV Episode as reading this, and without commercials it is 35 minutes but when aired on TV is a 1 hour show

What TV show? Most 30 minute shows are 22 minutes long. Although I've been working my way through my 7 seasons of Cheers DVDs and noticed that they're closer to 25 minutes long, so either TV had less commercials in the 80s, or they couldn't sell enough ad time for Cheers in the first 3 seasons.

Firefly was a little over 40 minutes but ran one hour, depending on the network you could get as low as 35 minutes.

Does it make a difference if I watch it on my ReplayTV and skip the commercials, or download the commercial free version from the net?

Either way I don't see advertisements. And even if they did collect view status via the ReplayTV, it wouldn't matter because I don't watch the commercials, so that number is useless to them for selling time to new advertisers.

It's not useless in entirety, though. A network would certainly chomp at the bit to know exactly how many people watch their show in exactly what way, etc. That information has some value to them. Of course, the counter argument being that there is nothing stopping them from watching the BT traffic for their show to get this same information.

Here's another question. What if you have a sub to netflix/blockbuster, and make backups for later viewing so as to get maximum rental out of your subscription?

The only reason they want that information ultimately is so they can sell advertisements and make money. It's not like they're going to create a second season of a show because they want to be nice to people who watch it, they're going to create that second season so they can make millions on ad dollars.

Its all about the money!

Also, keep in mind that if the show you're watching was ripped from the syndication version, it will be shorter than the original broadcast version.
