/TV recording question

Okay here is my problem. I have several shows on TV tonight I want to watch, they are all on at 10:00. There are 4 shows to be exact. I can watch one, and I can record 2 others on 2 other TV's. I have a third VCR, but it is hooked up to a crappy TV with only an antenna bringing in the stations and it looks like crap. I was wondering if it was possible to use the extra VCR kinda daisy chained with one of the others to record 2 differant programs at the same time? Something tells me this probablly won't work, but I am just checking.


Basically I would run the cable into 1 VCR, then out and into a second VCR then out to the TV. Could I then record say channel 3 one VCR 1 and channel 5 on VCR 2, both at the same time?
 
you cant daisy chain them but you can get a cheap $5 y splitter from radio shack and split your cable signal into two vcrs and have each of them record off the good quality signal.
 
I miss how our DirecTIVO had two tuners 🙁

When I can get it to work, I will be using Sage TV which has multiple tuner support and $0 monthly fees ($138 for the hardware but $0 monthly fees).

Yep what really attracted me to an HTPC is $0 MONTHLY FEES.

Tivo and ReplayTV at $13/mo adds up after a while.

$13 x 12 months = $156 you could OWN a TV Tuner card with PVR software for that price.
 
Oh crap, i am a friggin retard. For several reasons, 2 of which i will now mention.

1. I know what sage TV is, I was thinking it was some new type of set top recorder. I didn't even think fo the PVR.


2. That reminds me I have a AIW video card in my system. I don't use it very much for recording since it takes too long to download listings with dialup(that will change when I get broadband), so my recording problem is solved. thanks.


BTW Computer TV tuners and software offer slightly less quality then a standard tuner in a TV. SO if your looking for high quality recording, thats not your best bet. I know they are getting better and better, and are very close to standard TV quality. Unless your looking to get one fo the new HD tuners, not sure how good a job those do.
 
Why can't you daisy chain multiple VCRs together? As long as you have the TV/VCR option set to passthrough, the cable signal will pass through each VCR and allowing you to record a different channel on each VCR.

Modern TV tuners by Haupage (sp?), etc. have the same quality as you would see on your TV. The quality is quite good (as good as the signal).

I knew Haupages were some of the best, but I was still under the impression that they were not yet on par with the cable signal, although very close. But I don't have first hand info with them. I know the tuner on my AIW8500DV is pretty grainy looking, but that is on my monitor, so that could be part of it. I haven't output the recordings to the TV though, hopefully that woudl help.
