I don't have a TV and I need to get one...

I was debating getting a mid range 27" or a hq 20" What do you think?

How noticable is it between 500,600,700 lines of resolution?

I am looking at getting a JVC 27" There are 3 models available from Circuit City but I dont know which one to get....

The picture is only going to be as good as the signal you send it.

What will you be hooking up to it?

Depends on your preferences. I'm all about size myself. I bought a 27" with decent quality vs. a high end 20" and I've never looked back.

I would go with the 27" unless this is for a dorm room. You can have a high quality 20", but the fact remains it's still a 20". I have a 27" with 800 lines resolution I believe, and it looks great, but I do not know how it compares with lower res TV's. I thought that it always broadcast at 640x480 anyways, so it doesn't matter.

I agree, if you're looking at a 20", you might as well just get a TV card for your computer and watch your monitor (as long as it's not a crappy 15")

what would you guys do about this.... top 27" JVC is 320. For $350 I can get a General Electric 31" TV with S video....

I dont have a DVD player with component in... I port it out of my computer to the TV....

Are you going to connect that All In Wonder Radeon 9700 Pro to it? :) I bought a nice 27" JVC about 6 months ago. 3 inputs (composite, composite, and composite/s-video/component). It is stereo of course, and has audio out for connecting to a receiver. I have used the S-video out (on my All In Wonder) to connect to it, and DivX movies look as good as DVDs. However using it as a monitor doesn't look good at all....

The difference between 20" and 27" is HUGE. Now, if we were talking 32" vs 36", I'd say go with a high quality 32" over a lower quality 32". But in your case, that is a significant size jump.

My parents have a 31" and I have a 27", but my 27" is higher quality than their TV. In all honesty, if you are simply watching TV or a movie you really can't tell any difference at all. I would seriously consider the 31" if it is a good TV. Get as big as you can, imo.

Stay away from GE TVs. When I worked at Best Buy, the return rate on GE's was nearly 50%.

I prefer Toshiba and Sony TVs. Samsung makes nice sets for the money and JVC's aren't bad either.
