His only crime was that he matched the description of a "thug" that robbed a bank. He knew he wasn't the suspect but the police wasn't having none of it. Six hours of this man's life wasted.

To add insult to injury, Charles was gifted with his "Detention Certificate" which in part states
As required by the provision of Penal Code 851.6, I hereby certify that the taking into custody of Charles Neal Belk III on 8/22/14 by the Beverly Hills Police Department was a detention only, not an arrest.

Nice touch, BHPD.

What's really sad is he was only released after begging for the video to be reviewed which showed it wasn't him. If it's the incident I think... I should really click more links before replying.

Meh, I don't see any problem with detaining him because he matched the description of the suspect. However, 6 hours is way too long.

How long did it take for the police to their hands on the video from the bank? Was the footage kept onsite or did they have to go to another location to get it? Can they view the video at the bank site or do they have bring it back to the police station for it to be viewed so it can be considered as evidence?

yeah it's 36 hours....in some backwoods counties around here, it can happen if you get arrested on a friday, have to sit until monday morning to see the judge for arraignment....

Doesn't seem educated to me:

"If it can happen to me," Belk wrote, "it can happen to anyone. Time has come for a change in the way our law enforcement officers 'serve and protect' us. We all do not fit the description."

How could they/we all not fit the description? Someone does.

:/ Really? That's how you read that?

So when someone says something like, "We all don't have blonde hair." You translate that as a false statement because "...Someone does."?

Weird way to read things.

That's what it means. He took it upon himself to list his credentials on his facebook post concerning the incident, as if his education was relevant to the police conduct or his treatment, so I think it's fair to point out how poorly educated he actually is. You've just demonstrated that you're no better.

You've only demonstrated that your language skills suck and/or you're just being purposefully dense. The phrase as used clearly has a nuance that you're not able to grasp in context and so are stupidly interpreting litterally. A highly ironic way of trying to say someone else isn't educated; demonstrating your own inability to correctly interpret something. But then again this IS P&N where people with no ability to debate actual topics at hand resort to such lameness.

Are you seriously suggesting if a person claims not to be a criminal the police should just release them on their word alone? 😀

only 6 hours? At least you weren't cuffed, beaten, and then charged with bleeding on an officers uniform. Gotta look at the bright side.
