TV/PC monitor.

So it's finally time to think about getting a new monitor to replace my 21 inch CRT. So I was looking at some 22-26 inch LCDs at the local Costco. My PC is in the garage and I also happen to have an old 19 CRT TV and the wife said why not get a flat screen that I can use for my PC and TV. And they had at least 2 different ones that would take both.

The TV part will just be hooked up to strait cable, no HDMI or anything so I know the TV picture will be lacking but it will save me a ton of room.

Any good choices out there. I found a few at NewEgg...Sceptre

Any thing to look for...

If you are going to use it as a monitor i highly suggest 1080P, i have a 32" Sony Bravia thats only 720p and i hook my comp up to it sometimes and i wish i had the higher resolution. The only thing good about 720p is you can use a weak ass video card and still get decent framerates.

Well for right now I got an old ass comp. P4 2.8@3.04 and a 3650 AGP card. But the better the TV resolution the better it works as a PC monitor?

Yes, my Bravia is 1366x768(i think, might be 1344) so pretty close to 1024x768 you find on a typical 17" CRT, lcons are really huge on a 32" screen, looks crisp though i use HDMI out on my computer, i would expect it would look alot worse on a D-sub connection but i have not tried. So with 720p everything is large and you dont have alot of desktop space. 1080P is 1920x1080 a much much higher res, gives you more desktop space but if you game also puts alot more stress on your card. It should also be noted if your vid card cant do 1080p well you can always output 720p signal to a 1080p set, if i had owned a computer when i bought my TV i would have went with a 1080p set. They are cheap now anyways, i spent $1400 on my TV 2 years ago now you can get a 32" 1080P for $550(not a sony though). I would compare the differnce to going from 640x480 on a 17" CRT to 1024x768, worth it to go 1080p IMO

I picked up a 22inch Vizio from the local Costco and it is a 1080P set. The resolution on the PC looks no worse then what it did on my CRT and the TV looks pretty nice too for just using basic cable.

But my video card has a S video out, it's an S video out with a RGB pigtail cable splitter. Now if I use that out put instead of my VGA out put will the picture be better?...😱

I would think so, Just for the hell of it i just hooked my comp up to my TV with VGA instead of HDMI and it looks a little worse and less sharp than HDMI but not by much, i was actually expecting it to be worse. I would think that component out(RGB) or HDMI would look better on your set as well than the VGA connection as they are both digital signals and as far as i know VGA is analog.
