I'm trying to use my television as the monitor for my computer. I have it connected with an svideo cable to the graphics card. Everything looks great, only problem is that it's not quite full screen. There are black bars on the left and right and the image is stretched vertically a bit.

Display properties don't have any option to stretch the image(only to move it around), unlike with my 9800 pro. There are some overlay settings that would let you zoom...might help, but they're greyed out. Resolution is set to 800x600...kinda strange it's not 640x480, still 4x3 but can't change them anyway. God this is to stupid, I hate nvidia for this. It's so annoying that it's not full screen, why would they add TV out if it doesn't even fit a TV and have no option to fix it!? Theres gotta be something I can do...anyone got any ideas?

You can't expect a whole lot from a video card that is 6 years old. It's twice as old as that 9800 Pro.

Maybe. But I doubt they would include a tv out feature with the intention of only taking up part of the screen.

I had exactly this problem, but after a while I found the setting in the menus, can't remember where though... What drivers are you using? I know most nvidia drivers do have this function.

It's a Dell computer so originally I didn't think I could use anything but the drivers provided by dell, as is often the case. But I tried the newest drivers from nvidia: ForceWare 81.98. I was able to change the resolution to 640x480, which does help, but it needs to be stretched in all directions now. I see all sorts of crazy options that twist the picture and stuff, but nothing that stretches it.

Unless it's proprietary hardware designed by Dell, you can use any drivers supplied by the manufacturer of the video chipset, which is the case with any nvidia or ATI chipset.

So you can change the resolution on the TV with your 9800?

I'm able to change the resolution on the TV with both the 9800 pro and the Geforce. I can stretch the image with the 9800 pro, but I haven't been able to do so with the Geforce. It's definitly better now that I can change it to 640x480 with the new drivers, but with the black bars on all sides, it's like I turn my 32 inch TV into a 29. I'd definitly prefer 29 inches with DVR functions than 32 without, but I demand both!

Is your 32 inch TV a widescreen TV? Doesn't stretching it cause image quality degradation?

You can't change the TV resolution..no, nor can you change the TV out output...its always 480i for NTSC. What you change is how the output is mapped to 480i, and Radeon drivers have overscan and size feature support for TV-out.
