That would be true if this were only the card... But since this includes the remote, that makes it basically a 'free' analog TV tuner card. Can't argue with that.

From the picture, it look like it does NOT include a standard "bean-bag". It looks like an IR *receiver*, but it lacks an IR *emmiter*. So, this may be a no-go if your setup includes a cable or satellite STB.

Theoretically, it is possible that it lacks a hardware encoder. According to Microsoft's requirements, a hardware encoder is required. However, some companies implement software encoders (usually for USB tuners).

Also, as a previous poster said, the value in this deal is in the fact that you get an MCE remote as well as the tuner card.

I also like this part:

This might be worth it. I have an ATSC tuner but I always have to go fix the antenna so a lot of things do not get recorded. Analog cable is a lot more reliable. I ahve an old card that works in Vista but not in VMC.

Anyone know what software comes with it (assuming I don't have MCE to play with).

I don't understand how you guys are saying it's pointless to buy an analog tuner. I live in a large city and there are only about 20 stations I can get over QAM (comcast) and about 10 for OTA. Unacceptable..

Until more digital channels become unencrypted (mainly the ones you 'pay for' - discovery, comedy central, etc) then you HAVE to have an analog tuner.

IMHO it would actually be SMART to buy this and maybe an hdhomerun or other seperate digital tuner... that way you can pickup the few dig channels now and get the analog for cheap.

I have no experience with that particular card, but many hauppauge tuners (the actual tuner itself, not the pcb or card) are made by philips anyway.

Not to mention.... you guys realize that all of this digital-analog stuff ONLY affects OTA, right? You guys are telling me you have thousands of AT posts but are pulling an analog signal over the air aluminum foil-bunny ears style??
