TV display issues

Hey, I currently have a ATi Radeon 9800 Pro 128 MB with an S-Video out port hooked up to a 27" Sony Trinitron, also through an S-video port. On my TV, whether it is playing a video file or just showing the desktop, it has horizontal bands moving from the bottom to the top of the display. The max resolution for the TV is 1024x768 at 60 Hz. Video remains good, but bands movement is constant and causes slight distortion and is obvious enough to be annoying. Any ideas on how to fix this, I have tried a few things but my knowledge is that of the help section from ATi, I don't really know any technical specifics or anything of that nature. Thanks alot.

Just to note what I have tried, I have tried changing the display rate to 60 Hz from 75 Hz to no avail. In my mind I thought it would just treat the TV like a large monitor so I don't understand why the bands are on screen. Thanks again.

I have the same problem with Radeon 9800SE (Sapphire brand) ... I have tried hooking up the TV (which is also a 27" SONY) with other cards (Rage2C, the original Radeon, Radeon Mobility on a laptop, 9500Pro, and X800) and all works perfectly ... might want to try different cables ... though in my case I'm sure it's not the cable, cause I used the exact same S-video cable with the other cards ... so this quite possibly be a bug in the 9800 series ... do you have any other card you can try, if you do might want to try verify whether or not the card works

Has anyone else tried similar combination with success (Radeon 9800 with the Sony 27")?

IMHO this is not a general fault with the 9800 series cards as mine works perfectly for the tv out connection.

Did you check your S-video connector for proper contacts?

Try component connectors or RCA connectors if you can to see if the problem persists in those enviroments.

Try connecting to a different tv also if possible.

Thanks, disconnecting the coaxial cable did it! Although it is tedious to screw in and out the cable everytime I want to watch video files on my TV, it is still cheaper than buy a DVI-I to component adapter and a 12 ft component cord.

Huzzah.

See this ol' thread at rage3d too.

Component would be a better picture although perhaps not so noticeable on a 27", however it would not necessarily solve the ground loop problem anyway.

If the service provider cannot help you and you are averse to buying a good RF isolator you may try the grounding method betwixt PC chassis and cable shield.

In lieu of all that, perhaps a screw-on to push-on F adapter to at least make it less tedious.

Thanks for all of the help and suggestions. I will probably just switch to a push-on for the coaxial cable so it isn't quite such a pain, but it really isn't that big of deal. The picture is clear and looks really good playing ogg, avi, mkv (etc..) files, and that was what I want to use it for, so my cheap $10 dollar S-video cord is just fine :).
