be carefull of some of the hauppage PCI cards if you do not have an intel chipset motherboard. Read the fine print info on their website to find out which models are affected this way. The one I had worked beautifully on my old LX board, but had all sorts of problems on my VIA board. I currently have an ATI TV wonder card. No problems with any chipsets. Only complaint I have on it is that it is not stero.

Bump because I'd like to know as well.

The WinTV Theater from Hauppauge looks good.

So does the Dazzle DVC II. (Digital Video Creator) I like the plethora of inputs/outputs.

The WinTV goes for ~$110+ while the DVC2 goes for ~$200+

I've been keeping my eyes on these, but not sure if the DVC is worth the cash

Do a search for TV tuners. Theres a lotta threads on this but you kinda have to sort through them to find what you're looking for. Tons of info on the ati and wintv, both of which are good cards by the way. If you really want functionality u might want to consider a pci ati all in wonder radeon/rage 128/rage pro. The way you can have dual monitors, tv tuning, vid capture, vid out and great dvd playback all from the ati card. Albeit this method is kinda expensive (ati card + 2nd monitor) but its so tempting that I think I might do it🙂

Eh....not looking to spend mucho $$$ on this. 🙂 If I wanted that I'd get something more serious like a Pinnacle DV500 or Matrox RT2000. 😀

Too rich for my cup of tea. I think I like the Hauppauge since it has FM radio. Haven't listened to that in a long while. 🙂

I have a ATI TV Wonder PCI. (see rig)

Their drivers for win2k are suppose to be flaky, but I have had no problems yet.

One big Con tho: Video Capureing [by ATI's software] DOES NOT work in win2k. Others can confirm that.

Pretty much...this question can't be answered. Everyone seems to have a card from Hauppauge, ATI, Pinnacle, or someone else--half the people like their card and the others don't.

With that said, I've had the Hauppauge WinTV-Go and liked it...it did not support actual Stereo signals so changing channels made an annoying static sound...I am now using the Hauppauge WinTV-radio (remote, FM radio tuner, and stereo decoder for the TV)...love it.

i heard that the ATI TV wonder series has better image quality than the hauppauges. I had a problem with my pci tv wonder and had to return it for a usb version. At the time, the problem was a known issue, but it was not addressed. ATI has since release new drivers (or software)...but I do not know if that problem was corrected. I ended up with the USB version which is very convenient and works well, but has poorer video and audio quality.

My WinTV-FM (stereo model with an FM tuner I never use) works just fine in both Win2k and Win98 (using the appropriate drivers). I had it on both an Intel chipset and currently a VIA chipset with no problems. TV playback is excellent, just make sure you get the correct driver for it from their website.

Check on ebay, I bought my card OEM from a guy there who had a lot of them. Paid $55 for it.

Are you guys referring to the WinTV Theater? It sounds like it, but I'm not sure. $55 is a VERY low price, considering what I've seen them retail for locally and online.....

Hauppauge (WinTV) has the best support I've ever experienced. I remember having my WinTV fail on me and Hauppauge readily replaced it within a week. I lost a couple cables for the card and once again Hauppauge readily replaced them.

My TV Wonder VE works great in Win2K, but when I use it for any actual period of time (say 3 minutes or more) Win2K doesn't power down when I select Shutdown or Restart, it just hangs. The power button on the case doesn't work, and I have to use the restart button then power down. I'm certain its the TV Wonder and the ATi software (I've done extensive troubleshooting).

However, I seem to be the only one with this problem, so...

This isn't a WinTV theator. It's whatever model card they have that has stereo sound and an FM tuner. I think it comes with a remote, normally, but I bought it OEM (hense no remote). It's the model 401. There are lots of WinTV auctions on Ebay. I did notice an auction for a WinTV-D (the HDTV version) and it looks like they took a picture of a regular WinTV box, and then went into an image editing program and put a "D" on it, so buyer beware (as with all auctions on ebay)

I had the Hauppauge WinTV model 401 with FM and now have the ATI TV Wonder, so I have had both for over a year at a time. No question, the ATI TV Wonder is far superior in my case. Image, sound, capture, tivo, software, etc - the card is much better. The Haupauge did nothing but crash, the FM sucked so I never used it, and Haupauge updated their drivers and software almost weekly, which is a bad sign. The ATI TV Wonder is stereo (someone up top said it was not) and I paid about $60 shipped from buy.com about 18-20 months ago.
