Turtle Beach Santa Cruz <--- Worth it??

Hello,

I wanted to get your last minute opinions and reviews on the Turtle Beach Santa Cruz before I buy it.
Currently, I use integrated AC97 audio (yuck).

I mainly use the computer to play games such as Counter-Strike and sometimes use it to listen to music. Is the Santa Cruz good for what I want?

Also, is it the best bang for the buck (around $65) and how does it compare with Creative Labs products?

Please let me know. Thanks

Cobra

I have it. It's the easiest to install sound card out there. Not nearly the compatability problems of the Sound Blaster cards.

It has great sound for games and music too. You can do stereo, 4.1 or 5.1 depending on your speakers. It all sounds great. 🙂

Yes it`s a very good sound card with excellent drivers,it does sound better then the SB Live models, you will notice a big improvement over the onboard sound & also less CPU usage.

The other sound cards around the same level are Philips AE,SB Audigy, Hercules Game Theater .

Price being no object, which is the best SC model out there for music listening and computer gaming? I'm looking to get rid of my SB X-Gamer.

Audigy or nForce integrated.

price/performance ratio is unmatched with the Santa Cruz card... 5.1 sound... you can't beat it!! I love mine! If you running XP definitetly go with this card... Creative drivers suck in XP.

Hmmm I keep hearing this but I`ve never had any problems with my SB Audigy and WinXP,infact never had any Creative driver problems period.

actually, the terratec DMX 6fire 24/96 is the BEST prosumer/consumer level soundcard...wipes the floor w/ the audigy platinum and costs roughly the same...

the terratec sixpack 5.1+ is also another superb consumer level sound card...easily rivaling the top end contenders (santa cruz, acoustic edge, audigy, etc.)

terratec makes some of the nicest audio cards on the market...but anywya, back to the question

I own a santa cruz and love it - I like the way you can switch output mode so that sound ONLY outputs to the selected channels...if you select headphones: front analog, then the sound outputs there and there only....it also supports analog (and virtual) 5.1, digital (coaxial) out which doubles as an analog out (known as the versajack), uses the sensaura 3d engine, and costs less than most of the competition

sounds great, drivers are ROCK SOLID, performance is great, sound quality is top notch, compatibility is great, etc...i'd go for it...A3D for CS w/ this card is damn sweet too, so...

I had a SB Live! when I upgraded to XP and it was nothing trouble sound wise. I got the latest drivers and everything and the sound in half the games I played was always messed up. After doing some research, i realized that tons of people were having this problem so I bought the Santa Cruz card and haven't had problems since. However, I don't remember anyone complaining about the SB Audigy, I think it was mainly the SB Live! that had issues.

Yep,I guess at the end of the day it`s what you are happy with,I`ve always had good luck with Creative drivers,VIA 4 in 1 drivers or anything else I throw at my PC 😉.

Have a Cruz, and it sounds better than the Live! it replaced, and the driver support is way better than Creative's.
