Wondering what it would take to hook a turntable up to a computer, my aging stereo with record player in it is in decline and I'd like an all in one set up. I have 560s on my system now and will probably upgrade to 680s or klipsch in a month. Would like to find an easy way to hook up a turntable. Will it just go straight in line-in with no hassles or ?

sure someone has tried this before

You'll probably have to come from the line out on your receiver/pre-amp. Turntables don't have much output.

You will not be able to hook your turntable right into your line-in. You need to either run it into a receiver first or buy a turntable pre-amp. The output from the record player is sooooooper weak and requires some sort of amplification.

turntable RCA outputs to phono in on mixer
mixer line out to RCA to mini plug adapter
mini plug adapter to line in on soundcard

this is the setup I had.

Hrmm, what about the microphone jack? Wouldn't that be amplified as most microphones don't put out much anyway?

z680's are going to be logitechs 5.1's

there is a hot deals thread looking forward to them. They have a lot of inputs on there I wonder if the z680s would amp the signal preview

Probably, although I have a stereo mic I've never bothered to find out whether modern sound cards have stereo mic in. So scrap the mic in idea.

without getting overly technical... turntable hookups are not the same as other devices with RCA plugs. you need to change the impedance, correct the RIAA frequency curve, and ground the connection.

the three simplest ways of doing this:
phono preamp
decent mixer
home stereo receiver with phono in and line out

you'll need some decent RCA cables for the connection from the device to your PC, too.
