We talked about this in my first year psychology class. They hope that someday profilers will be worthwhile, but at the moment they are pretty much worthless.

I don't know about that, most cops and feds find it extremely valuable in helping them solve cases. I don't care if it's a placebo effect or not, if they find it a valuable tool then that's a good thing. Also, researchers simply don't have access to all the profiles created over the years along with the subsequent perp to do a meaningful analysis of profiling itself.

Look at where the information is coming from, is it a big surprise the conclusions fit the agenda of the source? Profiling works, it's used every day all across the US.

Even if it doesn't work, that won't stop people from using it. The yellowcake uranium bit wasn't at all accurate, but facts aren't always an issue with certain people.

You're going to try to discredit a study by using an ad hominem? Then you can continue on to justify your claim by directly contradicting what the study found without any proof of your own?

Question - what does this have to do with political correctness or the New Yorker's (implied liberal) agenda? If this was about racial profiling, I could see where you're coming from. But this isn't racial profiling. I don't think there's anything offensive about criminal profiling.

oh i brought it up since the term profiling these days is more closely associated with racial profiling than hunting serial killers and such.
