Is this normal?

I had been using my D-Link DI-614+ router for 2-3 weeks now and i fergot that i never set the WEP. So i just turned it on 256bit and the thing is FLYING now. Seems to be MUCH more responsive that it was before.

I dunno, but there is a NOTICABLE speed increase now. This is the new 22mbps network.

ohhhhh, It is a D-link thing then. I'm guessing D-Link fiddled around with the 802.11 spec...

Very cool. I am seriously loving this thing. Im sitting out back by my pool right now (about 75 feet from the base going through 5-6 walls). Nice day too, just a tad over 90.

Farthest ive gone is about 75 feet outside by the pool. Through about 5 walls, and still getting a 50% signal at 22mbps.

Lucky you! On my Linksys router, turning on WEP kills the performance by about 80%. I had to turn it off, because it made my DSL connection respond slower than a 56K modem :(
