Update 2: PM to Office Max (thanks soundforbjt!)
$149.99 - $55 (110% to OM) = $94.99 + tax out the door
$94.99 - $80 in rebates = $14.99 + tax

(this is the deal I got, did anyone else manage to get this?)
Update 1: tcsenter saw the drive advertised in-store for $69.99 after $80 in rebates; I had no clue about this until I got to the store as well.
$149.99 - $88 (110% to Fry's) = $61.99 + tax out the door.
$61.99 - $80 in rebates = -$18.01 + tax. This deal died when stores closed 5/30.

(the original deal I posted)
CC's site shows this WD 160 GB drive with 8 MB cache for $149 - 40 in rebates.

PM the drive to Fry's 5/30 ad showing the same drive for $69 (after $109 - 40 instant savings).
$149.99 - $88 (110% to Fry's) = $61.99 + tax out the door.
$61.99 - 40 rebate = $21.99 + tax.

I won't be able to head to CC til after 3 today, so hopefully neither store near me will be OOS..

I live in Boston, there arent any Fry's here. Is there a copy of the Fry's ad online that I can print out and then bring that to CC? Anyone have any ideas about whether that'd work or not?

You'd have a better chance if you bought the drive first and then tried to return/PM it later in the day.

If there is no Fry's in your area, CC would have to be braindead to let you PM.

Yes there are online and not at www.outpost.com. Outpost is a Fry's company, but it's not Fry's.

The Fry's ads can be found at the hometown newspaper of the one and only real Fry's, www.sjmercury.com. This really should be in a FAQ. Oh yeah, before all you people in the boonies start moaning about not having a Fry's. Fry's will do phone orders and ship to you. That should be in a FAQ as well.

Massachusetts stores
usually require that the PM be with a B&M that is at least in NE if not in Massachusetts.

They don't match Internet prices that have no B&M or no local B&M.

Heads up.

I just got back from Circuit City in Cal and this drive (WD1600JBRTL Retail Kit w/8MB) was advertised in store as $149.99 - $80 in rebates = $69.99 AR. So basically the same deal as stated in the link to CC website but with a second $40 rebate.

That CC deal isn't advertised in my area (Houston, TX), and I'm about to head to CC to buy, then come back and PM.

Edit: I've always seen people post links from myoc.com for Los Angeles area Fry's.

Its not advertised in any of the circulars to my knowledge, at least not in our region. I was quite surprised to stumble across it in the store.

BTW, the Centon 256MB PC2700 module with rebate @ CC is also cheaper in store than advertised: $59.99 - $15 MIR - $20 MIR = $24.99 AR. Circuit City is known for knocking an additional $10 ~ $20 off advertised prices from time to time. This is the third item I've bought @ CC that was cheaper in-store than advertised.

I just tried this at the glendale store...

1. I purchased the drive for 149.99
2. I had lunch for 1 hour
3. returned 1 hour later and tried the PM. At first the manager didn't want to do any pricematching whatsoever cause the AR price was 69.99 which is the same as fry's (109.99-40= 69.99)
4. I complained for 5 mins about how rebates are separate for upfront COST and that the PM policy applies
5. the Operations Manager hears my rant and decided to offer the PM only so as to stop making a scene, but makes a condition that I must remove the UPC and give it to them so I'm no eligible for the rebate.
6. More ranting about how the pricematch policy makes no mention of After Rebate price guaruntee and is advertised as a easy customer process that has no strings attached. The OM understands this but does not PM with rebate because they are "losing money" and "double dipping is not allowed."
7. Show me where there's a policy on " no double dippping" .... silence.... "I won't do it, you can take it or leave it."
8. Returned the drive
9. Got OM name, ID number, corporate phone #
10. Placing a corporate complaint tuesday.

The $69 drive at Fry's was a Saturday only deal in the Dallas area. We celebrated a Grand Opening for the Plano store this weekend (although it's been open for a while already).

No go in Dallas, as there's no valid drive in the area to PM.

Sure, no problem:

Circuit City's Price Match Plus Guarantee

If you've seen a lower advertised price from a local store with the same item in stock, we want to know about it. Bring it to our attention, and we'll gladly beat their price by 10% of the difference. Even after your Circuit City purchase, if you see a lower advertised price (including our own sale prices) within 30 days, we'll refund 110% of the difference.

Our policy applies only to advertised prices. It does not apply to special offers or promotions, including rebates, free-with-purchase offers and special financing.

Circuit City defines "advertised price" as: "Any printed or electronically broadcast price that is verifiable and made available to the general public. Special offers or promotions do not qualify. This includes, but is not limited to, rebates, free-with-purchase offers, and special financing."

To summarize: Circuit City does not pricematch special offers, promotions, or items with rebates.
8. Returned the drive

10. Placing a corporate complaint tuesday.
Great. Now if only there were some place to file stupid consumer complaints....

You're going to complain because you weren't able to trick CC into doing the PM for you plus giving you the rebate? Come on. Read CC's PM policy *again* and stop whining. Unf#ckin' believeable.

Well, I just tried to get Fry's to ship me something, and they said they don't ship sale items.
So most things posted here will not work for people who don't have a fry's.
This was the Sunnyvale Fry's, if you know another store that will ship sale items, I'd love to know about it.

Thanks,
Ted

Look buddy I had a copy of the PM policy right in front of me as it was on the wall of the CC... it said nothing about what you said, so it was not immediately relevant to the situation. Nevertheless, the syntax of that sentence can also mean that they don't PM After rebate prices which this was not... I was merely trying to get the ADVERTISED PM price of 69.99 from Fry's... the rebates are separate because I could just not submit them and take it at that price (not to mention that rebates are not guarunteed), however, that should be my right since the transaction already took place and my credit card charged. So leave it alone and if you think alternately about the syntax meaning then:
1. cry me a river
2. STFU and let the courts decide.

Sorry to hear what happened with you guys.. here's what happened for me:
Walked in, walked out, went to Customer Service and they PM'd with no questions asked.

End result:
$70 - $80 in rebates = -$10 (!!!)
This deal will die in about half an hour for west coast folks, I hope some others managed to jump in on this..

No go on this deal at CC in my area (Sugar Land, Tx). CC employees and manager refused all together to price match with Fry's under any means...got several excuses why they don't PM with Fry's : 1) Fry's is too far away...about 30 miles is too far for CC I guess. 2) Fry's sells used/refrubs 3) CC doesn't PM with rebates. Tried to reason with CC folks but logic, reason, and their own policy doesn't seem to apply or help convince them....good luck all..

No go for me either. First excuse is that Fry's was a one day sale. They only match sales that are a week long. I said that isn't on the big sign saying they'll price match. She moves a couple of boxes and points at this super fine print line on the bottom. I say I can't read that. She says she can. I ask her to read it from where I'm standing. She says it's too small. I asked to talk to the manager and he tries to find every excuse he can find. Try's to find a Fry's with it out of stock. Finally had to give in since they all had it. Ends up denying me regardless. Wastes 45 minutes of my time. I ask him to write that he refused the PM. He refuses. If what he is doing is right, why be afraid to write it down?

What really pisses me off is they treat you as a criminal from the start. When I first spoke to the manager, he looks over at another manager and says "He didn't know it was lower at Fry's until after he bought." and rolls his eyes. They also pulled a "164" on me. I asked a CSR what that meant. They pull up your complete purchased history and review it. All he had to say was that I've bought a lot from them. No more. I will never buy from CC again. I could still have gotten this deal by BVGing with Amex. But the thought of these people even getting a cent of my money was unacceptable. I returned it. Letters to the president of CC and the BBB will follow tonight.

What Store # and where was it at...This is crazy behavior. Let us all know to complain to the corp. about them.
