eh, I haven't had any problems w/ people ignoring the DND signs... I come back, everything is just as I left it. Then I just go request some more towels. never heard of a turndown service though

Why get so worked up? The dictionary defines "boat" as being a "ship". True, the word boat is typically used for smaller vessels or inland vessels, but doesn't have to refer to those only. Thus, it is 100% lingustically correct to use the word "boat" for large ocean vessels.

Tradition and respect. There are plenty of "linguistically correct" examples that are in fact, rude and not generally accepted in many communities. It all boils down to the plain ole good fashioned "they should know better" reasoning.
