Turn off CTRL+R

Anyway to make CTRL+R NOT refresh the page in IE? I have 2 monitors, outlook is on one, IE is on the other. I cannot easily tell the difference between active and inactive windows (personal issue I am sure), and so I will move my attention to outlook, and hit CTRL+R and it will refresh IE.

This is an issue since I have to use a webapp to do my job, and if it refreshes I lose everything.

Yea, that doesn't help in the least. I DO NOT WANT to refresh IE, ever.

However, I DO WANT to use CTRL+R to reply to an email in Outlook.

There's a program called AutoHotKey that I think can do what you want, as described in an example on this page of disabling a specific shortcut in a specific application: http://www.autohotkey.com/docs/misc/Override.htm

As far as I can determine, it's not possible to disable or change the shortcut keys in IE with any of it's options, registry keys, or group policies.

It might be possible for the devloper of the webapp itself to disable the shortcut key or disable page refreshing entirely. (IMHO a well designed webapp shouldn't lose everything on refresh in the first place.) So you might also want to send a complaint up to whoever provided you with the webapp.

The developer doesn't give a flip about making the webapp actually, you know, decent, so I don't think that complaint would get very far.

dude, just click the refresh button like a normal person






seriously though, if you have a logitech mouse or keyboard i suggest uberoptions. it will let you configure things 9 ways from sunday, including pre-made app commands. if you must use ctrl+r, then you are out of luck.

You could try focus follows mouse, but it's doesn't work as well on Windows as it does on Linux.

With regards to your suggestion... I am not crazy about altering what the buttons do on my mice. I like being able to pick up any mouse and being able to use it without having to context shift my brain into 'this isn't your mouse, the side scroll isn't going to open the start menu' or anything like that.

Yea, i tried that for a while, constantly having the taskbar buttons flashing and having various windows pop forward and back really drove me up a wall. Thanks for the suggestion that actually addresses the problem though.

How about this question;

Is there a way to disable keyboard shortcuts in IE. All of them. Completely. I do not want any keyboard shortcuts (except maybe Alt+Tab) to work in Internet Explorer, for any purpose.
