turn off auto-correct in ms word?

i am using office xp. how do i prevent word from automatically fixing spelling errors while i type?

TOOLS - OPTIONS - SPELLING AND GRAMMER- Uncheck "Check spelling as you type." :)

thanks. i thought all that did was remove the red underline under my misspelled words.

You're welcome gwlam12, you can also turn off the "Grammer Check" on the same tab if you like :)

nah :) the only reason i wanted to turn it off was because im typing up notes for psych and i wanted to type "intertrial" (which, i guess, isnt in the dictionary but is in the book) but word kept changing it to "intertribal"

In that case, on the same SPELLING & GRAMMAR tab, click on CUSTOM DICTIONARIES - MODIFY - TYPE "intertrial" and click ADD :)
