Turn off 2005fpw Completely

When I turn off the Dell 2005FPW it doesn't completely turn off. As long as the AC is plugged in, I can see the backlight and there is a glow which is especially annoying in the dark. Does anyone know how to turn it off COMPLETELY without unplugging the AC?

Mine shuts off completely either with the power switch in the lower right corner or if my PC is idle. How are you turning it off? Is the LED in the lower right corner still lit when it's off?

I press the power button to turn it off. So from the green light, when I turn off my computer, it turns orange. And then I press the power button and the orange turns to clear.

On most LCD displays (TVs included) that "power" button on the front is really just a stand-by button and does not actually turn the display off, it just puts it into power save mode. If you want to actually turn the screen off completely, you will need to use the main power switch, which is usually located on the bottom or side of the monitor. If your particular monitor doesn't have one of those, you can always plug the screen into a surge protector or power strip on the desktop and turn the power off from there...

yea my NEC LCD would go to standbay, and after about 30 seconds, it would completely shut off the screen. However, this 2005fpw will not completely shut off and I can see the backlight. =(

Regarding Hikari's post, some LCDs do have the problem I mentioned, but apparently your 2005FPW doesn't and hence jimikim's shouldn't either (I would expect most new LCDs to turn off completely but I'm not familiar with this model and I do know of some screens that don't except with the main power switch). I'd recommend a call to Dell's support possibly for service or a replacement if nobody else is able to provide a good solution.

Yeah, there are a lot of odd options on the 2005fpws. I think it is just since we are all getting rev 1s or something (it did just come out, shows nov 04 as manufacture date on mine). Do an exchange, I am doing one for a backlight issue, and they are pretty good w/exchanges. I get a new monitor in a few days, and I just have UPS come by when I pack up the old one and they take it back apparently.

My 2005FPW also goes completely black when I hit the front power button. The backlight also turns off completely after it has been in standby for a few minutes.
