Turn Based Multiplayer Game Recommendations

I am hunting for some turn based multiplayer games to play with my sons and a few friends. Ideally it would have local multiplayer (hot seat) but not required. But we do want to play some games as a group but our gathering place, unfortunately, doesn't have internet access so some hotseat recs would be appreciated 🙂

Some of the games we like: We love Frozen Synapse (PC) and got some good mileage out of Rad Soldiers (Chrome on PC). We play a bit of Carcassone (Windows 8 App) and Risk (Xbox 360). We are looking at Panzer Corps (and Open General) as a friend recommended those and they look great. Neptune's Pride looks very interesting but as most of us don't have mobile phone access and limited time to play in evenings or on weekends I haven't tried it. AtWar is another game I plan to check out.

I am not looking for something super complex/deep so most 4x games are out.

Looking for something with more strategy than Worms.

I know a lot of people like Xcom but after playing Frozen Synapse (love it) I have a hard time getting over the alternating squad member turn play (have not played Xcom but that is how it seems to play out in the videos I have seen--am I wrong?). We did like Rad Soldiers where you control the entire squad's moves on a single turn but the grinding is annoying.

I have a Windows tablet and boys Netbooks. Our friends have some Android tablets.

Its Free , and awesome. I think its a better hotseat game than panzercorps /open general. specially if playing with kids, the different fantasy races make it more appealing.

Check out Frozen Cortex - same developers as Frozen Synapse.

I dont known what you mean by alternating squad member turn play.... But in XCOM multiplayer, Player #1 moves all of his squad members individually (you get to shoot at the enemy during this turn) then you END TURN. After END TURN, Player #2 sees the previous turn play out, then he gets to move/shoot with all of his squad members.

Civilization / Beyond Earth, etc... but this might be too complex?

Age of Wonders 3 - if they are into the fantasy setting.

Nice to hear I was wrong. Won't run on our mobile devices but something to consider at home.

Yeah, Civ is going to be too long/involved/complex.
