my family's been deep frying turkeys for the past 4 years, our first fryer was aluminum, but then that melted one time and it also left this weird taste in some of the turkeys. now we use a stainless steel one and that's much better (tasting).

they're a bit more expensive, but definitely worth it especially if you're already going through the trouble of buying $30 worth of canola/penut oil.
