No, but it's less than $20 depending on the 'level' you choose.

Well that sucks, but at least better than TT. Hmm, and I really wanted the extra 200-500 in Amazon giftcards for my refund from TT which offsets all TT costs. I may have to check out Taxact though and see if they have any deals as well.

Does TaxAct have free State filing?

No package has free tax filing.

Some also charge you extra to be able to prepare state let alone file.

And break open your piggy bank if you have multiple states to work with.

The good news is that many states have their own online filing system.
Enter data from the Fed form answer a few additional state related questions and submit.

Wrong, I just looked it up. TaxAct Online has free State Filing ("a 14.95 value") if you buy their "Ultimate" Deluxe + State package for 19.99:

I'm wondering if I'll be able to access/store these numbers for next year's filing or if they'll charge me to print out the numbers.

I used TurboTax until I switched to TaxAct about a decade ago (when Turbo made some douche move that really pissed me off). I have found TaxAct much much easier to work with.

I remember reading somewhere that Inuit and H&R blocked legislation that would make tax forms easier to keep their products viable.

Yup, california wanted to put up their own website that did everything the private tax software does, but its free and directly linked to the IRS. Super logical. Why go through a third party to figure your tax? Lobbying got that bill killed though.

Ok Intuit and H&R are now two companies that I will never do business with again.

Shame on anybody using their products. These motherfuckers need to be put out of a business. Disgraceful!

I'm using TaxAct this year. Works great, not as douchey as TurboTax, and you can't beat the price.

Every year Turbo Tax users get their panties in a bunch over some minor detail. I'll continue to use it, because it gets the job done and I like how it works.

I did my taxes at lunch today. I think they charged me forty bucks or something to do it online & do direct deposit and the whole works. And now I'm all done with my taxes without leaving the computer

And speaking of refunds, Dollar menu's on me today boys! :awe:

I still file by hand. It's a good mental workout, and our tax situation is quite complicated meaning I would need to buy a higher end software package. Screw paying money so I get the privilege of paying more money to the govt.

They seem to be admitting that they screwed up.

But not everyone that is being forced will be able to get money back.
And only those that filed with the Deluxe last year.

And you have to request it.

Seems like dragging their feet and minimal damage control.:\

They are dragging their feet and doing damage control, while trying to keep the payout to a minimum. What's more, they're not really saying what they did was wrong, they're saying that they didn't do enough to communicate the changes and make everyone aware. So basically, "we did nothing wrong, you're just to dumb to understand it, so we should have communicated better".

Sorry, not good enough for me, I'm switching this year.

got in on the awesome 6 dollar deal for ultimate bundle. most years you can find a deal, but never that cheap. usually it's 11 or 12 bucks. I noticed they upped the regular price a couple bucks after that deal expired.

Awww look Intuit has had second thoughts:

http://www.chicagotribune.com/busin...x-apology-rebate-0124-biz-20150123-story.html

Still not good enough but may take the sting out for some people.

Edit, missed the earlier post with this info. Sorry about that.

"Taxact and H&R are gaining marketshare on our Turbotax product. What can we do?"

"Well, marketing step one is to create controversy. Why don't we jack up the price, get us in the news, and then issue a refund & a big public apology? Sure we'll lose a few customers, but any publicity - even bad publicity - is good publicity!"

"Do it!" :awe:

I still use TurboTax. I have no need for the capabilities that everyone is in an uproar about.

They realized their mistake and are offering a $25 refund to people who had to purchase Premier this year.
