Turbo Memory now worth getting?

Thinking of getting a laptop with turbo memory. Heard some negative/lukewarm reviews about its worth, but do you think it will eventually be worth having? I plan to have this laptop for 3-4 years, and maybe it will steadily improve? Or will the improvements not be accessible to me (through hardware rather than software)

"Turbo": what the heck? It's a marketing term. More often than not, marketing terms are BS.

If "turbo" is referring to the memory speed, i.e. DDR2 667 vs DDR2 800, there is really not much difference between them, especially for a laptop.

The best memory is name brand (Kingston, Micron, Crucial, Corsair are among the top brands) with a lifetime warranty. Excellent quality memory is so inexpensive right now that there is absolutely no reason to go with some off, no-name, less than exemplary brand.

I think it is this month's Consumer Reports that has customer service/satisfaction survery results for laptops. Apple did really well.

OK, November 2007 issue. Apple, Lenovo, and Dell best in tech support.

Lenovo, Compaq, and Sony most reliable.

Dear Amber,

thanks.....I had not read about Intel Turbo Memory.

I was thinking of

A-DATA Turbo 2GB Secure Digital (SD) Flash Card Model Turbo SD 150X 2G - Retail or

Honeywell HFT114B Super Turbo High Performance Oscillating Table Fan

pqi TURBO 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 667 (PC2 5400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model PQI25400-2GDB - Retail

as in marketing BS......

Thx,

NXIL

I agree the naming is a bit obscure and a little gimmicky sounding. Like you, I also think of pqi Turbo when I see that name.

Anyways, I glossed over the review when it first came out because it seemed like a niche product. From taking a quick look at the conclusions of that review, I'd probably have to say skip it.

Ah, thanks. That's what my impressions were from reading the various reviews, didn't know if it somehow could improve with better drivers or support over time.

My 1.5 year old laptop has "turbo" memory. Atleast on Vista/XP, it was utterly useless. When I reformatted and reinstalled XP on it late last year, I made sure to disable it.
