A real rapper.

Rap lyrics when I was growing up: (2pac)

Teardrops and closed caskets, the three strikes law is drastic
And certain death for us ghetto bastards
What can we do when we're arrested, but open fire
Life in the pen ain't for me, cause I'd rather die
But don't cry through your despair
I wonder if the Lord still cares, for us niggaz on welfare

Rap lyrics now: 50 cent

I put Lamborghini doors on that Escalade
Low pro's so low look like I'm ridin' on blades
In one year man, a awesome dude's so paid
I have a straight bitch in the telly goin both ways (Ah!)
Touch me, tease me, kiss me, please me
I give it to ya just how you like it, girl
You know I'm rockin' with the best

heh, so true. someone made the point that there are still good rappers out there. which is true, but the difference is that tupac sold records. the trash that passes for rap/hip hop today is truly pathetic. anything by Soulja Boy needs to be thrown in the garbage disposal. in fact, throw him in while you're at it. Tupac was Mozart in comparison.

Tupac is the greatest rapper of all time. No one else even comes close. His lyrics are what usually makes the songs so great. It wasn't all just thug life stuff he had alot of heart.

That was my day. Mid 90s, roller skating (that was the thing to do if you were well under drinking age here in Detroit Jr), all that jazz.

I was never a huge Tupac fan, but some of his music I liked more than competing rappers at the time.
Changes still sits as one of my favorite songs of all times, but that wasn't the typical Tupac song.
He definitely was kind of the heavyweight of the thug side of the hip-hop world, and that side has evolved into some of the shittiest, least-inventive music, of all time. That doesn't mean he was thug and only thug, he had a certain flair, he especially had that lyrical craft. And while he sat at the top of that specific sub-crop of rap, he was above it too.

And while my music collection is almost entirely all rock music of various styles, there are a few rappers and rap-rock groups. Good lyrics and good music isn't unique to any specific genre.

Personally, while I hate thug rap, I enjoy individuals or groups that take a different approach.
Common
N.E.R.D. / Pharrell Williams
Lupe Fiasco
Tech N9ne
Kid Cudi
Transplants
Beastie Boys

I wrote this song a long time ago
A real long time ago
Way before Slim Shady was in demand
Way before we dropped baloney on Afghanistan
I wrote this song in '94

Had he lived, he would have made sure Emimen would have been hung out a window like Robert Van Winkle.

I'm sure a lot of drug dealers have all those qualities too. I don't find his rap any better quality than any other typical thug rap you find today. His lyrics are just as awful.

funny how all the people who have no clue about rap come out in all of the rap threads on ATOT.

Seems so complicated to escape fate
And you can never understand 'til we trade places
Tell the world I feel guilty to bein anxious
Ain't no way in hell, that I could ever be rapist
It's hard to face this, cold world on a good day
When will they let the little kids in the hood play?
I got shot five times but I'm still breathin
Livin proof there's a God if you need a reason
Can I believe in my own fate
Will I raise my kids in the right, or the wrong way?
Dear mama I'm a man now
I wanna make it on my own, not a handout
Make way for a whirlwind prophesized
I wanna go in peace.. when I gotta die
On these cold streets, ain't no love, no mercy, and no friends
In case you never see my face again
To my unborn child

Because white kids from the suburbs have all kinds of things in common with blacks from the projects. You know, your parents telling you they will "only" buy you three computer games per month = your friends being gunned down just walking home from school. Your parents refusing to buy you a fully restored 1969 Camaro SS, but will buy you a brand-new Accord = your parents not having enough money to buy you a bicycle.

So on and so forth...

First off, you know nothing about me and second off what the hell does it have to do with anything? I can't relate to a tonne of the people that write good songs I like. Good music is good music, no matter what the background of the individual; I should not have had to have been shot at as a litle kid to enjoy someones songs. Idiotic. 🙄 Also, how does that explain all of the white kids from my school that did listen to and like this guy? They were all better off than I was and none of them were shot at as far as I heard. :hmm:

This is a Tupac remembrance thread, take your hate of rap out of here please.

Is beat boxing considered playing a musical instrument? it definitely takes talent to pull it off.

Hats off to Tupac but I was more of a Biggie fan.

We used to fuss when the landlord dissed us.
No heat! Wonder why Christmas missed us.
Birthdays were the worst days.
Now we sip champagne when we thirst-tay.

😀

Even though I'm not a huge fan of a lot of his material, there's no questioning the fact that he was an extremely talented artist. RIP.
