I just bought the tuniq tower and I know it will fit by my main concern is all the torque it will be putting on the motherboard. The thing weighs close to 3lbs and having that jut of the mobo about 6inches when its on its side cant be good. Is there anything i can do to make it more secure or am i just being paranoid.

TIA

paranoia has set in!! But as I have said many times you do not want to be moving these large heatsinks other than across the room...good Luck!!

Howard: I was thinking of doing something along those lines, is there a certain gauge steel wire i should use or will some heavy test fishing line work?

Yoda: What do you recommend to do for when I need to take it to college or if i go to a friends house, or if i rig it up with some support should it be fine for transport(i am very careful when i transport my computer, i make sure that if i get into an accident, my comp will be safe :) )

Transport, now there is an interesting thought!.....I doubt very much if the manufacturers thought the PC would be moving around for LAN party etc......

DON'T do it.....

Anything will work as long as it's durable and won't weaken/stretch over time. Fishing line might work.

how heavy is the tuniq in comparison to the zalman 9500? I have one of those zalmans on my naked opteron and I move it around quite a bit in the car to lan parties and such.

This might be silly to ask but at that weight, is it still okay to have your case standing straight up or will the weight be too much for the mobo?

Personally I always remove my heatsink when I transport my computer cross country!!

Good Luck!

What about Dell pc's? They have fairly large heatsinks. How do they manage getting those from factory to someone w/o damage?

If I'm transporting a computer in my car, I try to keep it on it's side (with the hsf sitting upright on the mobo, not with it hanging upside down...). Taking it off the mobo would be the safest, but I'm too lazy for that :p

I'm paranoid about it too. I was also thinking of securing it to the top of the case with a wire or something. TBH though I doubt it will break off with normal moving around. Infact I bet if you put it laying on its side in the back seat of your car it would be fine. Just be uber careful etc. Drive slow and carry the case on its side. Don't drop it even a single inch or you might be screwed.
