Tuniq Tower - controlling the fan

Thinking about getting a Tuniq Tower. I see that it has it's own speed control on a PCI slot cover.

Can you plug the fan directly into a 4-pin motherboard CPU FAN header and let the MB BIOS control the speed?

Anyone using some other method to control the fan speed?

Probably 25% of the folks on this board have this HS. If just half of them say how they have it hooked up....well...that's like 50%! I can live with that!

Certainly you can hook it to the mobo CPU fan header unless the supplied fan draws more current than the mobo supports. You will have to bypass the included control or just set it to full speed. You will get varying levels of control depending on whether the included fan is PWM or standard. Of course, under mobo control, it will attempt to keep the CPU within a safe temp zone - not necessarily optimum temp for OCing applications, etc. Usually best to select a fan that is appropriate to your application and let it run full speed.

Sure, you can plug it into a mobo header!

As a matter of fact, the Tower 120 fan controller actually plugs into a mobo header...

Well, Zipper already answered that, so I'll just add...

I like the Tuniq fan controller. It actually has a quality feel to it - nice range of motion - easy to dial in - so, I'd recommend sticking with it!

Sorry for being rudimentary, but, if you DO decide to use the included rheo, make sure to remove the knob before you mount the plate into your case.

LoL! You wouldn't believe how many ppl try to force that knurled aluminum knob through the card slot! :laugh:

Thanks for the detailed reply, VinDSL. It's looking like I'll be getting a Q6600/Tuniq since my Gigabyte P965-DS3 motherboard can't support the upcoming Yorkfield Quad-Cores. And that's too bad.

But, 4 cores @ 3.2GHz each should be plenty for the near future of Gaming Goodness.
