Ok so all the reviews give the Tunic Tower the thumbs up -- best thing and as close to water cooling as you will ever get -- best thing on air. Anyhow I originally have a Big Typhoon which I simply loved on my X2-4800.

Now I use the Tunic on my new e6600 oc'ed to 3200mhz. I am using an Antec 900 case and an 8800GTX. The freaking fan on that Tunic is LOUD LOUD LOUD if I don't set it at anything lower than absolute minimum and then my temps go up. Spinning at say 75% it drives me nuts.

When they tested these fans on various sites did they set them at max for them to work that cool? Read some reviews where the Tunic keeps an x6800 at 27c idle! WOW... my e6600 at 3200 mhz oc'ed will idle between 30-32c and wont break 50 on full Orthos for hours but that's with the fan making a loud mess.

Anyhow use a big Typhoon on the e6600 or any C2D and can attest to it being as good? I mean on my x2-4800 at MAX speed I never EVER heard my big typhoon and that x2-4800 oc'ed from 2400 stock to 2800mhz the idle temp was never more than 24-27c. Sigh.

I have a P4 3 gig processor - that dissapates 89w of heat. The e6600 dissapates 65 watts of heat. When I have my Nexus case fan at the screaming loud speed of 1,000rpm (with no fan on my Ninja), I get load temps of about 50-55C (haven't checked in awhile, maybe just 50C). So, it maybe that you need to reapply the thermal paste, since sometimes it just doesn't go on quite right. It could be it's not going as tight as it should be on the motherboard, which any heatsink has the occasional problem with. I've gotten 33C idle with my stock processor heatsinks, but those things were loud.

my thermaltake cpu fan I use on my scythe ninja is dead silent up to 60% and I don't notice temps on 60% compared to 40% or 100%. I do have a p180 with those 2 exhaust fans right around the heatsink going too. Invest in a Yateloon or a pricey cpu fan with a special rpm control on the outside of the case like mine has a knob I use or you can have one that has temp sensors.

Yeah, then fan that comes with the Tuniq sucks if you want a decently quiet PC. It's RPM at the minimum setting is higher than the Big Typhoon at max settings.
Get a Yate Loon, those are actually the ones that are used on the Big Typhoon and are also the same as Nexus 120mm fans (Nexus just rebrands them). They also cost only like $5. Svc.com hast them.

Wow that makes sense -- figured I was doing something wrong. Heck I will pick up a few of those at that price LOL. Now to figure out how the HECK to get Tunic apart to get a new fan in there. Can't be that hard! /duck.

thanks!

Because the Tuniq's fan has to suck and blow they only recommend using a 9 bladed fan.
I do not think the Yate Looney has that many. The AeroCool and Silverstone fans do.
Read the FAQs at Tuniq's site...Please. :)
