too limiting? I don't know of any other phone that has even close to 16 gigs. Sony has an 8 gig model that's coming out, but it will be EXPENSIVE (ie. more than an iPhone) 16 is a bit small overall, but your next best bet would be an Ericsson and most don't support 8 gig cards even.

Anyone know of any other phone besides the iPhone that has 16 gigs?

I see this the most with Apple products.

2 weeks before 16GB iPhone was released, there were people talking about how, if only it had 16GB, I would consider it, 8GB is nice, but too small for what I want.

Now, 16GB is too small, 32GB would be better.

The 64GB SSD in the Air is too small, why not 128?
The SSD is too expensive.
Why doesn't the new MBP revision have HDMI, eSATA, 3G, HiRes Screen, 56k Modem, PCMCIA slot, 15USB ports, do my laundry, 5 hard drives, or cure cancer?
Why didn't apple include a floppy drive with the MacBook Air?

No one ever seems to care if the latest HP notebook lacks some feature, or if the latest Moto phone only has 40MB of capacity (which is what mine is)

QTF my Moto Q has 40 megs or something silly, I would understand these peoples rants if they said "I'll get [such and such] phone instead it has 64 gigs!" As it stands even the 4 gig iPhone's storage is WHOPPING compared to 99% of others. 16 gigs? Nothing touches it. My Q can take 4 gig MicroSD cards, which isn't much.

A dude on my block was bitching about the iPhone "yeah it's 16 gigs, but the damn OS takes like 1 gig of that!" He didn't understand that's still 14.96 gigs more that my Q :)

In a perfect world I could get (regardless of price) a 128 gig iPhone, that would make me happy. Hell, I'd even pay a lot for it. But it's not possible. the 32 gig is right around the corner. And by then we still won't be seeing other phones with more than 4 gigs, if even that.

On an iPhone, the OS (plus fonts, plus ringtones) takes up roughly 200MB - I know this for a fact because I am looking at the size right now. :)

it's only 200 megs!?! I've always heard it was close to a gig, wow mis information. People sure hate Apple, they'll stop at nothing to discredit, maybe people are refering to how 1 gig doesn't actually = 1,000 megabytes of storage. I can see that being the case, but in that case they can't hate on Apple because all storage works the same.

Well, for every 8GB of claimed space, you can actually use like 7.3 or so GB of that, after formatting, and the GB != GiB thing.

So the 16GB iPhone has like 14.6 or so GB of usable space, maybe he was referring to that.

Enterprise sales numbers = 'ownage', not having a similar feature set. Also, Active Sync != push.

It doesn't matter if another phone has, or doesn't have, 16 gigs! It's MY workflow that I'm trying to accomodate. I want to get rid of my iPod, and have a phone that does it all, which is what they tout it to be. However, I want 32 GB to accommodate the movies, music and podcasts that I'd be putting on the phone.

I think it's obnoxious that people can't have opinions. I understand your argument, since you're saying it's the best out, which is fine. But while I could get by with 16GB, I don't want to spend that much money and just GET BY. I want it to be something that I'll be happy with for longer than a year. And 16 GB would be VERY limiting with my current media needs. 24 would be about perfect. I have close to 22 GB worth of media on my iPod at all times. It switches in and out, which I don't mind doing (to a point), but I want to be able to have a decent amount of content on there at one time.

I personally don't care, because I don't use those products. When I buy a phone, I buy it for one main reason, to talk to people. So if the call quality is good, then so be it.

But now with the iPhone I have the prospect of doing SO MUCH more, and forgive me for not wanting to settle. I will gladly pay $600 for the phone when it has 32GB of storage. Right now, though, 16GB would mean that I'd either have to sacrifice on the amount of music, or on the amount of movies/videos.

I don't know, I just want to be completely satisfied with my purchase. Maybe I would be with 16, but I don't want to take that big of a risk when a new iPhone is definitely imminent in a few months. :(

And, yeah, I am lucky at my EDGE service. I was surfing today over lunch on EDGE and I'm honestly not too annoyed with it. It's not fast by any means, but it's pretty usable. I can get stock updates in 3-5 seconds, the weather is usually just a few seconds. Yahoo's home page loads in about 15 seconds. The NYTimes and CNN take more like 20-25.

Since I'm on a hacked T-Mobile iPhone, I am highly unlikely to be able to upgrade to 3G (without moving to AT&T, which I'd rather not). Based on some research and some guessing, I think the 3G iPhone is likely to be using the Infineon 6950 tri-band UMTS RF chip... which is 850, 1900 and 2100MHz... but not T-Mobile USA's 1700MHz (some day when they eventually deploy it). So, since I'm not likely to switch to AT&T, I'll be stuck with EDGE for a while. I guess I'm trying to convince myself to like it. :)

Oh haha!

Reception is really spotty in my area. I really wish they'd come out with a CDMA version...Verizon was so good here that I dumped my landline! Can't say the same about AT&T...my wife and I always joke, "less bars in more places" because our AT&T reception is so poor. Even on 5-bars it sometimes is a crappy connection, but talking to other non-iPhone AT&T users apparently that's just the situation here.

Haha you've been spending too much time at the Mac Rumors forums...there are threads entitled "Users Waiting for X Mac thread" lol. And then it's released and they're not happy. What a joke!

Apple sure is a lightning rod for criticism. As a PC user my whole life, I think there's always a bit of jealousy when we look at Apple's stylish products. Lets face it, PC users can mod and customize their cases all they want but it still won't looks quite as stylish as an Apple product. Sure, Apple charges a premium for their products but I think most Apple users will agree that they feel it is money well spent. Apple's got this innate ability to make their products 'feel' more expensive. I don't know how to describe it any other way.

It is terrible at MacRumors, you are right. I don't know why I spend time there at all. There is one guy there that basically spends every post talking about how much better either windows or some PC laptop is as compared to whatever Apple item is being discussed. I love to hear constructive criticism, and i think that if the community gets behind a specific request, then that is good, but bashing for the sake of bashing just strikes me as a waste of finger movement.

I've started just perusing macrumors instead of trying to actively participate.

You just can't satisfy those people, no matter how many times we tried to tell them the next MBP update wasn't going to have 90% of what they wanted, they just bitch and whine about it.

Currently you can't talk and do data transfer at the same time. EVDO will have that feature here pretty quickly on Sprint.

But, let's say you sign in to your IM client on your iPhone. Someone sends you a link. You click it and it takes you to Safari. Your IM application closes and signs you off. So when you're finished looking at the web page, you have to start up your IM client again and sign back in... AGAIN.

Does this mean PEAP is supported now? Without PEAP support, I can't use the internet on campus with the ipod touch :(

Apparently there is nothing technically preventing 2 apps from running, its a design guideline. It can still be done the same way they do it now. The issue is that the agreement of the app store says that the app must follow all design guidelines so i guess it depends how strict they are going to be.

if the stories I heard were true. Apple originally went to Verizon with the iPhone. And Verizon said "no!" because they wanted control over the phone and did not want to let Apple do what they wished with it. Itunes on iPhone = 99 cent songs for Apple. Verizon's Getitnow = $2.99 songs for Verizon.

Verizon is dumb, I can totally see this story being legit. They were greedy and passed up the chance to have an awesome phone. This is one of the reasons I left them, still don't have my iPhone but when the 3G model hits I think it's a done deal...

Oh absolutely. Verizon destroyed the UIs of most their phones with their content. They're control freaks, absolute control freaks. Just look at their crippled Bluetooth. I loved their service though...I ditched my house phone because their reception was so good. That's the one thing I miss since I have switched to AT&T.

My greatest problem is that Verizon has ever so slightly better service in my area, but AT&T is getting better... however, $400 is a little too much for me for a phone, and so I am stuck between choosing an iPhone, or Not An iPhone. But out of the dozens of Not An iPhones in my area, not one of them really appeals to me, i just hating being in this position.
