Yea, I'm pretty terrible. I got a little better as the night went on, but thanks for putting up with my lousy scores.
Is there anyway to play with people my own rank? After Spidey and Mugs left, I joined a bunch of games just by myself in hopes I'd see some other people ranked 5-10 on there. I kept getting matched up with 40s and 50s, though. I know I'm not good, but I'm getting slaughtered by these people with a hundred hours invested in MP.
That one guy who kept ragging on you was an asshole. You have to start somewhere.
It sucks that CoD 4 doesn't have a video feature like Halo 3, it'd be nice to watch and see what you're doing wrong.
At very least, knowing the maps and knowing where a lot of the fighting happens helps a LOT. Knowing where the other guys might be hiding helps a LOT.
Having the red dot sight helps a bit.
People bust on Juggernaut users a lot, but if you're frequently getting shot before you shoot I'd use it. On one hand you lose stopping power which kills faster, but I think the benefit of Juggernaut is more than the benefit of Stopping Power.
You have to get used to detecting guys in camo at a distance. If you see them before they see you, you have the advantage.
I like to stay around the perimeter of the map to limit the other guys' ability to come up behind me. Stick with a teammate or two if possible (just watch out for grenades

)
If you're coming from Halo 3, you have to forget everything that worked in Halo 3 and learn to play the CoD 4 way. I see guys jumping, and I laugh. I've been going back and forth between H3 and CoD 4 lately, because a friend just bought a 360 + H3. Man it blows me away how long you live while getting shot in that game. It helps to be more cautious in CoD 4. I never camp (hide and wait for a surprise kill), but I will find a place that I can defend pretty easily and pick off guys as I see them. i.e. Behind or in the "bakery" on
Crossfire. From behind the bakery you have a pretty good view of the alley on the opposite side of main street, and you can use the cement walls and the building for cover. Make sure you watch your back occassionally so guys don't come around at you from the restaurant. Inside the bakery you have windows that give you a good view of the coffee shop and the bottom of the hill while hiding you from anyone uphill of you. A lot of people say the M16 is the best sniper rifle in the game, and in some ways it is. You can easily kill a guy all the way across the map if you can see him well enough to put the red dot on him.
Kind of went off on a tangent there, but my point is to find the spots on the maps that are made to be defended, and learn how to defend them. Lots of fighting happens in the restaurants on Bog. The silos are big on Downpour, because they're difficult to attack from the side with the big wall. The "3 story" building (actually 2 stories and a roof) on Crash sees a lot of action, becuase it's the highest place on the map. Find the spots that can be defended and defend them. One of the nice things about CoD 4 is that you'll have different games where the fighting is concentrated in different areas. You might have one game on Overgrown where everyone is fighting over the house in the middle, and another game where all of the fighting is on the opposite side of the riverbed.
