Tuck dress shirt into jeans?

I'm starting a new job tomorrow (in accounting/finance) at a software company and I noticed at the interview that a lot of the men there were wearing button-down long sleeved shirts tucked into jeans. It looked alright on some of them, but I think it looks silly most of the time. I have a number of nice long sleeved button-downs that are meant to be untucked, but I'm hesitant to try wearing those with jeans since I didn't see anyone wearing that style, so I'm gonna play it safe and wear a dress shirt with khaki pants on my first day.

What do you guys think? Yay or nay on button-downs tucked into jeans?
 
Tucked is more professional, but it depends on the shirt. Since you're asking the question, that means you're unsure. If you can't tell immediately what's right, tucking is always the safe bet,
 
if you're going to tuck your shirt in, get some slacks. anything tucked into jeans looks terrible. may as well tuck your jeans into your socks while you're at it.

I agree with "no jeans,' especially on your first day.

Unless you're wearing a t-shirt and "slouching," always tuck your fucking shirt into your pants...except when you're going for that "unwashed hippie" look.
 
Alan Harper style? No thanks, I've never liked shirts tucked into jeans. Makes you look too much like a dad from the 80's.
 
If your wardrobe sucks, tucking jeans in may be your best option.
But really, you should buy shirts that fit and don't need to be tucked.
Or actually dress professionally.
 
I dont care if it looks like a 80's dad or a 90's thing. Untucked shirts, dress shirts mind you, look like shit if you dont tuck them in. It makes you looks like a damn slob that cant take time to even tuck in a shirt much less anything else. Might as well go in with your shoes untied while you're at it.

Being professional isnt always following the latest trends or fads. Its often times quite the opposite. Being as its your first day though I dont believe I would assume the "When in Rome..."policy and would go in business casual until I knew the lay of the land better.
 
I think you should do whatever you want. My opinion is there are some button down shirts that look good untucked...I personally don't own any of them though.
 
I think it really depends on the type of jeans you own. A nice pair of dark jeans that fit well and you can pull this off, I do it sometimes to look a little bit nicer. However a faded baggy pair of light colored wranglers from 5 yrs ago..yeah, not so much.

Slacks are more professional and definitely tuck shirts into them. Jeans, I feel can just go either way but it also depends on the shirt. Some dress shirts just look dumb untucked.
 
I wear jeans and tuck in a dress shirt regularly, IDK anything about fashion but I think it looks fine.

Also I live in TX...
 
Bad idea, especially since you should not be wearing a full button down shirt, which is usually worn with a tie, with jeans. They just don't go together, especially in an office.
