Tualatin with the CUSL2-BP?

After searching forever on Google, I'm convinced the i815EP and ASUS Black Pearl are too old to have any published information anymore, so I'm hoping someone here can help.

I have an ASUS CUSL-2 the Black Pearl edition Socket370, and am wondering if I can get a 1.4 Tualatin and pop it in there with no problems.

I guess I'm a bit confused with the FC-PGA vs FC-PGA2 differences as the i815EP is both on mobos that list they support the Tualatin as well as on more mature boards that don't specifically say they can run a FC-PGA2 chip or Tualatin chip just because... well... those didn't exist when the board was made such as mine.

So does anyone have experience with this and can perhaps help me out?

It's so hard finding information out about these old products...

The CUSL2-C BP is based on the original stepping of the i81EP chipset and does not natively support the Tualatin processor.

You will either need to purchase a Powerleap S370 adaptor, or do a bit of modding to the socket.

FC-PGA2 does not directly mean Tualatin. All Tualatins are FC-PGA2, but not all FC-PGA2 are Tualatin; ie some cD0 stepping Coppermine Pentium IIIs are FC-PGA2. FC-PGA2 describes the form factor of the processor, not the pinout. It is the pinout which makes the difference between the Tualatin and the Coppermine.

Ah I see, thanks for the info all, I guess I'll need an adaptor to make it work, but I have a question regarding this:

The adapter adds some extra height to the CPU, as does the Tualatin's heat spreader. So how can a normal Socket370 HSF possibly attach to that setup? What kind of HSF can you get to accommodate that?

Thanks for all the info,

I was running a pin modded P3-S Tualatin 1.26 @ 1.53 on my Black Pearl... :D That board was rock solid... :) Until one of the clips broke when i was changing heatsinks... :( I miss that board. So it will work... you can do the mod or you can buy an adapter. I just used any Socket 370 heatsink... you're gonna need the clip that was made for the adapter to compensate for the added height. :)

Oh wow that sounds really good, do you have a link or place I can read up on that 'pin mod'?

Thanks for the information!
