Hey,
I recently upgraded my system with a thermaltake 480w purepower PSU from an Enlight 300w psu because I think I put one too many HD's on the system. In either case, after the new PSU install I installed MBM 5 and checked the line voltages to see if they're running correctly. On idle, the Voltages are as follows:
+3.3 +5 +12 -12 -5
3.38 4.97 12.28 -12.27 -5.14

Now most of the rails seem fine except for the +/- 12v. I know they fall within 5% tolerance but aren't those voltages still pretty damn high for those rails? Is there something wrong with my PSU? I heard that there are ways to modify the PSU voltage for each rail. Can someone tell me how to do this? My rig is as follows:
XP 1600+
512 mb Crucial DDR3200
40gb Maxtor 7200rpm
120gb Maxtor 7200rpm
Radeon 8500LE
Sound Blaster Audigy

Thanks for your time.

P.S. I'm currently running only 2hd's until I get this matter dealt with. I don't want to fry them :)

you should be fine with that 12 volt rail voltage...

i liked to run them around 12.25 to 12.3 when i had my p4 :)

Wanna trade? My TruePower 480 +12v rail runs at 11.85v, no matter what I throw at it (besides a Pentium, of course:D).

lol yeah I guess a little more voltage is better than a little less but I just get kinda nervous when it wavers at almost 3% from the ideal 12.00. So far I haven't run into any huge problems. If I don't get any issues within the next couple of days i'll be putting in my other two hd's. Oooh, as an aside do you think my xp 1600+ can run at 400FSB? (It's an AROIA stepping with 10.5x multiplier). I heard a lot of success stories about how these gems can run at 2ghz. I'm wondering how many of them are true.

Well, I'll trade with you anytime you want. And as far as overclocking that 1600, as far as I know, it's a Palomino, which means you aren't going to get much of an overclock at all out of it. Are you sure you haven't heard of people running them at XP2000 speeds? That would be about a 250mhz overclock, and sounds much more reasonable.

Lol you might be right about the overclock. I just tried it and while it seems stable at 1750mhz running 3dmark and such, it wasn't Prime stable (crapped out after 2 minutes). The highest setting i've gotten that's completely stable is 1700mhz which equates to a 2100+. Hey that ain't bad at all. For a two year old chip, that's pretty damn good. I'll probably upgrade to the mobile barton sometime over the summer.
