u are wrong bro.In almost all games there is advantage of 3770k over 3570k it only take advantage on benchmark.
How many threaded games are there over 4 threads? Pretty rare, but with the new console ports coming is where we should start to see them.

If the game doesn't use over 4 threads of course there will be no difference.

Well stock for stock, the i7 also has a 100MHz advantage and a bit more cache. So it should still be faster, though it's not likely to be noticeable outside of looking at benchmark figures

In the specs it says minimum 4gb and recommended 8gb. Is the game really going to be 64bit based? Or is it a 32bit exe with the extra address function?

That's probably the biggest benefit with the new console generation. It will FORCE game developers to finally implement better multithreading support. Any developer that can't, will go under..

I'm tired of playing games like Borderlands 2 which are ruined by lack of proper CPU optimization. :colbert:

I know in my experience for BF3, I used to have 4GB of RAM. And I constantly had issues (hitching and stuttering). I then upgraded to 12GB (added a 4x2 kit), and that stuttering all went away.

And its not that BF3 used up all my available memory (Which on boot was something like 3GB). It was everything else that is used with it. DirectX, and all the other libraries that are used all consume memory outside of what the BF3 exe would use.

So personally I would say yes, 8GB is where you want to be. Because Windows will consume about 1.5 by itself once the game launches. Plus you have to have a browser open for the game launcher.

BF3 (And I am sure 4 is the same) will use up to 6 threads. This is why an old Phenom II x6 will out perform a 2500K in BF3 when the GPU is not a limiting factor. Benchmarks don't show this as they are in single player mode. But FPS monitoring during a 64 man match does show it.

So this is one game where an i7 or an FX8350 really shines over quad core chips.

Really??? Phenom x6 faster that 2500K? Not according to this benchmark, and it is multiplayer.

Battlefield 3 end game multiplayer benchmark.

2500k is well ahead of FX8350 and Phenom x6 is even slower, 50% slower than 2500k actually.

Guess I am mistaken. I was trying to recall the thread here that had a bunch of us comparing CPU usages and such. But it was like 1.5 years ago, so doubt I will find it.

I agree with this. With the very low clock speeds of the upcoming consoles I think that it is mandatory that the developers try to use as many cores as possible to make up for the very low clock speeds of these consoles anyways.

I think my dual core Pentium G630@2.7ghz and 7750 1gb gddr5 are going to cry while i play this game on medium-high settings at 1440*900.I do expect atleast 30fps avg though its the minimum frame rates and the stuttering am worried about.Do you think my rig will be able to handle it ?

http://www.tweaktown.com/news/32811...m-requirements-aren-t-harsh-at-all/index.html

Minimum:

OS: Windows Vista SP2 32-bit (with KB971512 Platform Update)
Processor: AMD Athlon X2 2.8 GHz or Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4 GHz
Memory: 4 GB
Graphics Card: AMD Radeon HD 3870 or NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT
Graphics Memory: 512 MB
Hard Drive: 30 GB

Recommended:

OS: Windows 8 64-bit
Processor: AMD six-core CPU or Intel quad-core CPU
Memory: 8 GB
Graphics Card: AMD Radeon HD 7870 or NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660
Graphics Memory: 3 GB
Hard Drive: 30 GB

I am just super annoyed that Win 8 is the recommended OS.Is this one gonna use directx 11.1?

so i cant run it on ultra with 2gb gtx770 and i5 2500k

Who knows? we shouldn't draw conclusions from alpha. But if your rig can't run BF4, it won't sell well on PC that's for sure.

I would not worry about it.

If you play enough BF3,there is rarely a moment where high without MSAA consumes 1gb,you apply ultra and bam,you better have a gtx570 1.2gb card and apply a little MSAA and suddenly its passing up 1.2gb especially pass 1200p....distinctive settings in BF4 will draw the limit of what card can do what trust me.

Perhaps high settings and a 2gb card like a gtx660/7870 is what is recommended and for very high or ultra its the 3gb and 4gb cards that is recommended, performance of course will vary depending on model.

You're assuming those skips dips and pauses were present. You're making a lot of assumptions based on nothing thus far, including the SLI 780 recommendation.

This...if it was dropping frames the minimums would report this too.

Of course there'll be an advantage to the 3770k if there's more than 4 threads. It sounds like you're trying to convince yourself. ;)

No it's reality. Bottlenecking a video card has little to do with hyperthreading. A true bottleneck happens across all games.

bf3 on ultra consumes 1.4gb 1080p

It is really hard to say, using the tools available to us, exactly how much a game actually uses. If you have a 3gb card, it may reserve VRAM, but it may not actually need the amount reserved.

You see a lot of benchmarks that show games using more than 2Gb of vram, yet 2Gb cards perform just as well as the 3Gb cards in those games. My guess is the memory management is more relaxed if there is extra vram available.

Agreed, I doubt these osd tools can give accurate vram usage at all.I recently played "Remember me" and the vram usage was hovering around ~ 2.9Gb, I thought wtf? it was a good looking game but nothing too fancy.

Not sure how accurate it is, but you can try monitoring that with Process Explorer. It has numerous options for pretty much everything.

The problem with all these monitors is they only display the memory that is allocated for use. It does not know what memory is being actively used, or which what is simply allocated, but not in use.

Not only you think this.

Aye, I got a 7970GPU at a bargain and am now running it on my Q9650@3.6GHz, P35, DDR2 system (pcix 1.0a). I can now set BF3 to ultra setting with 4xAA and vertical sync. smoooooooth.

I was going to upgrade to the latest i5... but why?

At this pace, I think I'll wait for 8core CPU's to become the norm before I consider upgrading...

Actually, I'm buying extra ram next week to keep my current system up to date.

Everybody needs to get up in a hurry and ditch DX9 and 32bit and FAST...
Thankfully FB3 is doing the first part at least!

The weirdest thing I saw is a new Plants vs Zombies will use FB3. Go figure. :D
We will be bedazzled by the awesome detail of the humble garden-variety zombie(no pun intended).

DICE has been really working on FB3 being scalable. Both downwards and upwards for the future. They have the best engine out there right now. Nothing else can deliver games with the visuals and scale that FB3 can.
