Tsunami Effort: Honest caring or politically motivated?

Well? Is the US effort in Indonesia stemming from an honest concern for those who were affected, or is it a ploy by Bush to undermine the UN?

with initial aid donations of 15m and then 35m as well as 4 days to phone the other leaders, i think it's bush not really caring. can't speak about the UN though

And the Aussies have the biggest penises 😀

LOL

I think it is politically motivated caring. I am sure we want to look like a nice country after we have invaded Iraq. We must make sure the world knows we are not trying to destroy Islam. By giving 15 err I mean 35 Million, wait I forgot now it is 350 Million, I am sure will win the hearts and minds of everyone.

2.6 Trillion dollar budget, we can afford it. Maybe we might buy the respect of someone.

In the end, $$ matter the most (aka $100 million of "politically motivated" donation will help more than $1 million "honestly caring" one)

I don't care what the motive is. What matters is that the people in need are getting help. If it means a competition of penis sizes, then so be it.

Man is a political animal, so said Thomas Jefferson.

I think it is a combination of the two. It is a political opportunity to reach out to the world's largest Muslim population.

The American left has been quick to criticize the US gov'ts slow generosity. I find it curious that few have criticized the Saudis, UAE, and Kuwait for having done shamefully little to help their Islamic brethren.

These nations have much, and have given very little. That is what is shameful.

It is kind of hard to complain about how slow the Saudis, UAE or Kuwait are at giving support considering we, at least I, don?t live there. It is sad that they have not given much, but those countries are 3rd world countries, what do you expect? All the money is in the royal family, not the people (unlike the US).
