TSA: Pat-down or Scanner for US citizen to enter the US now?

edit: maybe this is clearer. Ive been search as I described upon landing at JFK, SEA, LAX, and PHX after having flown in from various countries. On US soil. Upon arrival.

edit#2: actually, I dont think it was 15/20 re-entries. More like 8-10 re-entries. LAX mostly. But it happens.

Yes. You can really tell who travels internationally and those that don't. The US is pretty lax when it comes to entering the country and going through security or main gate security is common so anything normal departing domestic passengers go through, you go through as well.

Depends on your arriving airport in the US though and how they have customs setup.

I have traveled internationally extensively (Europe, Asia, and South America) and I don't believe I've ever NOT had to go back through security after clearing customs in the US (I've mainly come back through JFK or ATL). The theory is that you might have stashed something 'dangerous' in your checked baggage and when you retrieve your bag for customs, you could put it on your person and go to the plane. Therefore, they make you go through security before going to your next gate.

I'm not looking forward to my next flight with these "new" pat downs, that's for sure.

But that's the rub here. He picked up his bag and was leaving the airport, not connecting to another flight.

Just a violation of your rights and potentially sexual assault if you don't go through or are flagged for a pat down with a bit of child porn thrown in for the hell of it.

It was an analogy, you are saying that it would be much easier on you if you simply submit to the violations of your rights. I say any American with that attitude is a coward. The fact that it is for a threat that is statistically less dangerous than your own bathtub just makes it worse.

Yeah, that's what I don't understand unless his particular airport only had one exit back to the main terminal and that was through security and the connecting gate concourses.

I voted for Bush twice. I choose to fight battles that really matter not getting my panties in a wad over additional security procedures in an airport.
