Too bad the union can't negotiate for higher wages. They are seriously underpaid. They start at $17k. A security officer only makes $29k.

http://www.tsa.gov/assets/pdf/pay_bands_0110.pdf

They have the pay grade but no definition of the position, In other words students start off making nearly 20K a year. I worked on the runup project 10 years ago. At that time the screeners were to be paid between 30-32K\year and site managers closer to 38-40. These people were basically making 10-12 bucks an hour before this as contractors.

The scale at the bottom shows screeners start at 22K maxing at 33K in the first band. I am willing to bet most are not in the first band. Managers are pushing 90K in the top band.

Maybe they can unionize, and then Obama can fire them en masse like Reagan did with the air traffic controllers. He'd then win re-election in a landslide. I might even vote for him if he did that.

Maybe, if they unionize with the agreement that they are not allowed to strike, but then strike anyway.

If Obama had the intention of using executive power to dismantle the TSA, even I would vote for him.

That's as likely as TSA doing something respectable.

No, it will only further protect the TSA. It needs to be ended

This. The TSA is a waste of money and needs to be abolished or, at the least, undergo and thorough auditing and budget cuts to steamline the efficiency of the organization and the passengers forced to endure it.

This, but for different reasons. I don't mind public unions. The air traffic controllers had some serious issues that their union tried to address that we are still dealing with today. The fact that the TSA wants to unionize is of no consequence to me. The TSA should be abolished, union or not.

imo this could go either way.

Unions tend to create organizational inertia. This makes it that much harder to get rid of the TSA. If it was up to me they would all be in jail for crimes against the American People.
