Why - they already dropped down to BELOW what they were before Katrina (And I live on the Gulf Coast). Filling up out of fear of rising gas prices is stupid - and will only cause stations to raise the price of gas at a faster rate (artificial demand based on future expectations).

I've been searching. And Anandtech search sucks. What was the first thread devoted to Rita? This is the earliest I could find.Originally posted by: Ilmater

Below what they were??? Where are you at? It's around $2.70-2.80 right now in Nashville. It was $1.80-$1.90 before Katrina. It's nowhere near below pre-katrina prices.

The day before Katrina, the cheapest gas here was $2.47, prices were near $2.40 yesterday. Also - considering the national average for gas prices was at $2.50 the week before Katrina, I'm calling shens on the you having $1.80 gas the week prior to Katrina.

Then you were getting ripped off long before Katrina. The fact is...most cities have gas pricies signifigantly higher than pre-katrina pricing. Just because you don't, does not make you the majority.

Jsut admit that you pulled that number out of your ass. Pull up any news story from google - they all indicated average prices across the country @ $2.50 prior to Katrina.

Scroll down, look at the graph. How does the gas price now compare to the end of August?
whoops looks like this was earlier than the other more popular one by an hour.Originally posted by: dullard

No problem. I just thought it was funny that the more popular one has the link to this thread on the third post. But this is the thread that gets called the repost.Originally posted by: rh71

Hint, US average for retail gas prices:
Aug 15: $2.55
Aug 22: $2.61
Aug 29: $2.61 ******
Sept 5: $3.07
Sept 12: $2.96
Sept 19: $2.79
I say LikeLinus still wins. His number may be slightly off, but his point was correct (gas was cheaper nationwide before Katrina than it is now). Your point is incorrect (gas is not cheaper now than before Katrina).Originally posted by: Ryan
Thank you - exactly what I was saying. There is NO WAY there was a deviation from the average of .81 cents - gas prices do vary, but LikeLinus was likely not even paying $1.80 for gas at anytime during this summer.
