Trying to upgrade to rounded IDE cables

forget rounded Parallel cables, they are sooo late 90's case mod. Just migate to SATA. You're gonna have to anyway.
 
I have a couple of those cables in my old PC. They seem ok. I have some UV reactive ones in this PC that are really thick, but have nice pull tabs and light up really nice with all the UV lights in the case.
 
Hey, maybe the guy wants better airflow & doesn't want to buy new drives or buy converters to get SATA.

Agree on SVC.com. Would never deal with TigerDirect personally.
 
Buying rounded IDE cables: $5 or so a cable

Buying SATA: New HDDs, expensive $$$

Not being so uptight about system perfromance to push SATA every chance I get: priceless
 
You might want to check out SVC.com first. I was there today & placed my 1st order. The service was pretty good & they offer a local Will Call Service, so that was a big plus for me. I found their prices to be pretty reasonable. Check out this link for some pricing. I think it's about half of what you're paying now, plus they have a wide variety to choose from.

I just bought some rounded ide cables from svc.com the other day. It came today via UPS. I bought some of the pc toy cables for only $2 a piece.

I live in the bay area so shipping was cheap and fast.
 
Dittos! SVC is where I buy round drive cables. Thev have had some CoolerMaster cables in their clearance bin recently as well as the PC Toy stuff.

Heh, just picked up six cables myself. Using SATA for all HDD's and any new burners I buy, but I still have floppies and older DVD burners and it'd be nice to get rid of the eyesore of IDE cables.

Just picked up six of the silver braided 1 device 10 inch, 3 FIDE, 3 IDE. Will make the rigs look cleaner at the very least and shorter single cables will increase airflow and give me more room to work when swapping RAM and whatnot. 😉

True... with such a small purchase, you don't really save enough to cover the cost of shipping and make it worthwhile to buy online.

the local computer "shop" (in quotes for a reason) had no idea what rounded cables were for, and couldnt comprehend why someone would want them when i tried to explain it. even the guy in the back who actually built the systems had no idea what i was talking about.

does anyone else find that rounded cables are more difficult to work with than normal ide cables? i bought some round cables a few years ago, but went back to normal ide cables, and the inside of my case is cleaner than ever.

Yeah, they're a little more stiff, and tend to take up more room at the connection. If you have nice long ribbon cables, it would probably be even neater if you could just do some "cable origami" and tuck them out of the way neatly.

I actually also think at this point in time that properly done standard IDE cables look better than rounded. I have rounded in mine but that's only because they are single device UV reactive and I really like that, nice and simple and looks cool 😉
