Given the following:

Gigabyte GT 740 OC, 2Gb, GDDR5 which states Dual Link DVI-D maximum display resolution of 2560 x 1600 @ 60Hz.

and

Asus WQHD PB278Q, which has a max resolution of 2560 x 1440 @ 60 HZ.

Question: Why would this combination make you guys fall on the ground laughing? From searching the forum(s), I guess it would take 10 minutes for the mouse cursor to get across the screen. But from a spec point of view, would this card not drive this monitor?

My application would be general PC stuff (not gaming), but that would include video playback as well as "static" stuff like Office programs.

Sorry for my ignorance. I am just trying to figure out why a GTX970 or more is required.

Thanks for any clarification/education.

A 970 or greater would be required for gaming on that resolution. If you're not gaming the 740 is fine.

96Firebird...thanks

maddie...older homebuilt.

MB: GA-890FXA-UD5
CPU: AMD Phenom II X6 1090T
Graphics: Currently GT 740 (was recently Radeon HD 5700...thought card had failed, but turned out to be 1 of my monitors)
PS: OCZ 600 watt
Misc: pair of WD blacks, BD burner, Samsung Lightscribe DVD
Monitor: Samsung 220wm (was a pair...guess cap failure on one of them)

Bottom line...want a 27" and thinking of WQHD as opposed to HD. My GT 740 is not sacred, but if it can be utilized..ok.

Just make sure you use a dual-link DVI cable as well.

I'm embarrassed to admit I made this mistake once, couldn't figure out why this awesome 27" 2560x1440 screen looked like absolute poop on desktop & in game. When I figured it out...well, I was happy with the picture on the right cable! Felt like an idiot though, LOL.

Picture worth a thousand words.

With DSR testing at 2560x1600 with my 660,it can play some games reasonable well to just fine.CSGO could be maxed with 2x MSAA with a easy 100fps,BF4 can average well over 60fps with adjusted settings and WOT can get 80fps+ with the standard render settings.

I did this testing as i am going 1440p myself,i do plan on a 970/290/390 purchase sometime this year but the 660 works well enough. It won't be maxing out anything pass 2012,or playing the big hits of 2015/2016 that well.Coincidentally my library goes back to 2007,ends with GTA V being my most recent game and one that runs well on the 660 as well with adjusted settings.
