A used Altima is an extremely good buy. Public perception of Nissan still isn't what it should be, so resale value of Altimas is significantly less than Camrys and Accords of the same year.

Have a 2003 Altima 2.5S bought new about 2 years ago.

*decent ride
*adequate power
*pretty quiet
*good quality
*although the interior materials are alittle cheap, there are no rattles or squeaks after 35,000 miles.
*i'll definitely consider Nissan again for any future purchases

The Accord and Camry would be good choices too.

I just got a '02 Altima 2.5S a few months ago (got it with 36000 miles). I love it so far.
-good ride
-quiet (even at 80MPH)
-good convinience package (16" wheels, steering wheel radio controls and trip computer are among the most notable features of it)
-styling is sexy
-lots of mods (even for your dad....custom dash kits and gauges, grills, etc.)

He's still in limbo wether he'll get new or used. He was all set on new, when he got into 2 separate car accidents last friday (both not his fault) so now he's not so sure about getting a new car rearended by some nubmnuts. I'm sure he does care about interior by his main concern is size and he's afraid that Altima is smaller than the aforementioned cars.

Well if he's thinking Altima, I'd definitely recommend going new, I base this entirely upon the redesigned interior. I've been in the previous version and the interior is pretty bad for a car in its price range. Apparently the redesigned interior is a good ways ahead of the old...

I agree. We have an '02 3.5SE and the interior is just blah. However, the exterior looks good, it's very fun to drive and has been very dependable.

shouldnt the accord and camry be competing with the maxima? anyways, the accord imo is by far the most boring looking. camry is alright, but altimas are the nicest for sure. and same goes for performance. the altima is way ahead of the other two. because its tops in these two categories, nissan would have my money.

03' Altima 3.5 SE here. The V6 power is incredible which makes it a real fun car to drive. No squeaks or rattles so far. The interior has some cheap plastics, but I don't notice it at all. Overall, it's been a great ride. Exterior looks better than the Accord and Camry, which are both blah IMHO. Altima would smoke either of those two anyday.

Get the accord.. its great.

Next Camry..

and im sorry, i cant even put altima on the list.

There is a reason accords / camrys are so common..
BTW, if he gets an accord, dont get silver.. you will NEVER find it in a lot. :)

End of discussion :p

My father LOVES his avalon!

MAXIMA baby! We have two and love them!
My in-laws have an Avalon. It's got decent interior room, and big trunk, but it doesn't have a V8. That sucks. The engine sounds more like an air compressor than anything else. It's done well for them, but I GOTTA have a V8!
