Trying to split original disk to 2 new disks.

Hi, I purchased 2 new SATA drives. I want to move the C: partition of the original disk to one of the new disks. Then I want to move my other data partitions to the 2nd new HD. What is the best way to do this? Running WinXP Pro. I have Partition Magic and Norton Ghost 2003 that I can use but am unsure of the steps I need to do to accomplish this.

I would appreciate any and all suggestions.

I tried to do a clone with Ghost, but right when the Ghost screen comes up, the screen locks up showing an hour glass and nothing else. I am still looking for some suggestions.

Dunno why clone wouldn't work. Are the new drives formatted?

Couldnt you do images with norton ghost of each of the partitions you want to move, then restore those partition images to your new respective drive(s)?

Norton Ghost period, will not work. I tried booting to a ghost disk, tried running Ghost from windows and when it restarts to do its thing, it messing my C: drive all up. I am no longer able to boot to windows because Ghost keeps trying to run during startup, but fails each time. When restarting, it wil come up to PC-DOS with an hour glass and menus at all. Then I will get an Internal Stack Error, System Halted message. I am running WinXP Pro. I want to move my entire C: partition, which holds windows, to the new drive. This is because I want to retain all my settings. I want to leave windows just as it is, but on a new drive by itself. Norton Ghost is no longer an option. Are there any other ooptions? Please!!!

Hopefully the ghost problem is because of the sata drive - Look here

Change you HD from SATA to PATA in Bios Setup and try to Ghost your hard drive, After you finish you can change it back.

Thank you very much morkinva, this info provided in that link worked. I just used the ghost /noide command and it worked. However, I noticed that when I finished getting everything set like I wanted it, my 200GB HD is only showing 131GB. How do I get the rest of it to show up?

the problem you may be having that has to do with the hard drive size has somethign to do with enabling 48-bit logical addressing and/or not having the latest service pack for Windows XP installed (at least Service Pack 1 would be fine) also verify your bios will support hard drives of sizes in excess of that

I do have SP1, but where do check on the 48-bit logical addressing?
