Trying to spec out a PS for a new build

I'm trying to decide on a PS for an i5 2500k build. With the components planned I could get away with around 550W and I don't think I need anything above 650W, but I want to be sure. I'd also like to get the best one for the money. Components are as follows:

i5 2500k
a Z68 MB
gtx 460 or hd6870 (or something in the $175-200 range)
8gb of ram
3 or 4 SATA HDs
1 optical drive
pci tv tuner card
i'll say 4 or 5 fans just to be safe

Ideally I'd like to keep it to about $100 and I see the following supplies:

PCP&C Silencer 650
Corsair TX650
OCZ ModXStream Pro 700
OCZ ModXStream Pro 600
OCZ Fatal1ty 550
Corsair CX600

Is there a best one out of those few, or is there something better out there that I failed to see.

I'd like to keep everything confined to NewEgg as well to consolidate my order.

with those components a good 400 watt would work. 500 will keep the supply well within it's efficiency band.

i wouldn't get an OCZ anything at this point.

xfx core edition 550 is something i'd add to your list. it's a seasonic OEM supply. the antec hcg520 and 620 are both the same underlying platform, so add those.

this thread has some good info on which seasonic platform is used for what supply:

Here's a great PSU for $80 ($50 after rebate): XFX Core 650W. The powerful 53A/636W single +12V rail will easily handle 6870 crossfire with 2500K @ 4.5GHz. 6870 consumes 140W while 2500K@4.5 consumes ~150W at 100% load (which you'll practically never see simultaneously).

It's a Seasonic manufactured 80+ bronze unit with excellent power quality, 4 PCie connetors, 8 SATA connectors, and 5-year warranty. Review by jonnyguru.

wow great price

While that XFX looks good for $50, I can't stand the hassle of rebates. I probably should have said I'm looking at NewEgg and would prefer to keep everything there so I don't have to order from a bunch of places. I'll edit the first post.

From what I've seen about the Antec HCG, there are far better choices out there around the same price.

The Corsair TX650 is tops on my list currently as I can get $20 off my motherboard with it. Not long ago on here, it and the TX750 were ranked quite highly. Being modular or not isn't a deal breaker for me either.

Hmm... NCIX does offer free shipping to the US though on orders above $50, so it wouldn't really be a problem to order from there. Newegg doesn't offer free shipping on most PSUs.

Even $80 for that XFX 650W is a good price. It's $90 on newegg. And Corsair TX650 V2 is $90, Seasonic S12II 620W is $92 with shipping, and its 3-year warranty derivative with Antec labeling is $83 with shipping. All of these come with 2 pci-e connectors as opposed to 4.

If we look at cheaper units, the EA-650 is sold out, the CX600 V2 is $60 after promo and the Neo Eco 520C is $58.

But if you check us.ncix.com, the EA-650 can be had for $53 and free shipping. Then again, you might as well get the XFX 650 and do the rebate hassle, it's a lot better PSU and you'd end up $3 richer 🙂
