Ok, I have a Sound Blaster 5.1 sound card in my pc with the latest updated drivers off the sound blaster site.

I bought the cable so I can have my sound card going to the auxilary port in the back of my Sony (model STR-DE575) receiver.

My question is: is there a way I can set up my sound card so I can send a digital signal to my receiver so it will decode in Dolby Digital Surround sound to my surround sound speakers (5 satellite speakers and powered woofer) when I play games like NHL 2002 or mp3s?

I can hook the one end into the analog output of my sound card to my receiver and play mp3s and stuff but it decodes using Pro Logic.

When i hook up the end into the digital output of my sound card , it still decodes using Pro Logic. Is there settings in the sound card software or on the receiver end I need to set so I can get Dolby Digital surround sound? I tried checking the digital only check box in the sound card software but that gives me lots of static

Thanks for the help! Feel free to AOL IM me at s/n: Nitsuj3580

well i have the live platinum and use a digital coaxial cable to connect the spdif rca port in the live drive to my decoder, works well enough

i think you have to connect your cable (miniport>RCA) to the orange port at the top of the soundcard - it should say digital out
then enable AC-3 and if your decoder can use the signal you have digital output

Unless you use the provided Creative medias player and specifically made media (or any third party software/media, which I haven't heard of), you'll just get Pro-Logic.

You have to get the Creative 5.1 speaker setup if you want the really cool stuff...

I use the same setup, but this is what I do.

I dont know my terms in wires so bare with me in my illustration.

i bought this wire that in one end is red/black in the other end was the "earphone" plug-in.
looks like this:

=----------~

so the earphone end goes into the sound card "line-out" NOT AUX!. the other end must then go to your stereo CD-in or PHONO-in, whatever "in"

that should do it. 🙂

danny~!

There is obviously something glitchy with your system... can you force your receiver to decode dolby digital on that port... or maybe its the quality of the wire (you said you got a lot of static)... unfortunately I have yet to acquire a dolby digital system... hope you find the solution soon.. 🙂

nice illustration DannyLove, that earphone plug is the miniplug and those red/black deallies are rca connections.

if you plugged the miniplug into the stereo port of your card than you are only outputting dolby stereo which can be seperated into pro logic surround. however your digital port whould output ac-3 which can be decoded as dolby digital

understand or no?

sorry, i thought i understood but I still am not having luck.

can any one go through the whole set up for me? what color hole to plug the mini end into my sound blaster 5.1 then do i need a two end rca cable to go into my receiver or just one end RCA ...where should i plug into my receiver. what settings do i have to check in the sound blaster software?? i didn't think this would be that hard.

thanks all
