OK, so I'm probably missing something really stupid here, but I could use some help.

Installed Freespire...everything seems just peachy. Installed klibido via CNR.

I setup my news server in klibido and imported an NZB. Everything looks ok, but none of the connections will start a download. They connect OK and my login is accepted, but then they just immediately go to "paused" and never download anything, simply cycling through every 30 seconds and repausing.

Any idea what I'm missing here? I set the built-in firewall to "open".

Thanks.

Sorry I can't help with your issue but as a fellow Usenet user I have a question for you. Is 'klibido' a better newsreader than 'Pan'?

No idea. Was recommended by a friend and available on CNR, this is the first time I've tried setting up a news program on a linux machine.

Note that this is just a grabber...you can't view posts with it, just headers.

Ah, okay. I'm looking for a more 'full featured' solution like NewsBin. I read somewhere that people were using NewsBin or Agent (can't remember which) with WINE but I haven't attempted it myself.

I used Klibido for a long while because of its nzb support, but once the Pan beta came out with nzb support I haven't looked back. Loading groups is much much faster in Pan than Klibido imho.

Anywho, the problem could be a few things.

1) Are you sure you can login just fine? Try updating your groups list and subscribing to some group and downloading new posts.
2) Can you subscribe and download from the newsgroup channel that you're downloading files from the nzb from? If you can't download anything from the channel then your newsgroup server might cover the channel. Or are you sure the files are there? Again try downloading posts from the channel and see if the files are actually there by searching.
3) Lastly it could just be a bad newsgroup server you're using. I've been running into several issues with bellsouth's newsgroup server from the southeast for about a few months. Before that it was smooth, but now I get what you're talking about occasionally. I'll just exit and relaunch the newsgroup reader and hope for it to reconnect and resume downloading.

Yeah, I'm sure the server works (newshosting) and the files are there, I can download the same files on my windows xp machine just fine.

I'll give pan a try.
