Trying to play Titan Quest online

HI all,

I just purchased Titan Quest Gold on Steam. Back in the day I used to play it from CD and really enjoyed it. I liked going online and viewing all the other players and their equipment. Now I cant seem to get online at all. Are the servers down? I get to the screen that is supposed to show the available games, hit refresh, and it just locks up. If I use task manager to get out, there is an error message, something about "assertion failed".

Can you play online using Steam? If so how do you do it?

I gave my CDs to a friend who moved away, purchased a copy for myself on Steam, and was hoping to play online with him.

Okay, it's been a while so this may not be entirely accurate but it's a place to start.

In order to play immortal throne online (I assume you are just playing this, why wouldn't you) you need to first run the original game once. I forget if I just created a character in single player and then quit or created a character in multiplayer and then quit. But I know this for certain, I have 0.1 hours played on titan quest on steam.

So, then I believe when you go to search for a server in Immortal Throne it will work now.

If this doesn't work, try looking at titanquest.net and search those forums. That's where I found my answer to this question years ago.

Good luck! It's a great game!

I saw nearly a full screen of games when I tried last week, but I couldn't get into any of them, and had one person join when I hosted that left after a minute.

There are multiple fan patches in addition to Steam's version, and you cannot play with other people using a different version. But you can't see what version someone is using in the server browser; pure luck if you can join (0 for 6 games) before I tried hosting.

There is a fan patch available that fixes this. Google your error, or immortal throne fan patch etc. Should fix your problems.

Thanks for the comments.

Festa, I already had a character in the original game, but created another one. I played briefly both single player and online. Unfortunately this did not solve the problem.

I did search the problem. Apparently it is a common issue. Many people said they solved it by running as administrator for either IT or Steam or both. Unfortunately, this did not work for me, and I actually had to do a system restore because the game quit working entirely.

Perhaps I will try the fan patch. At least I found that the original game works online, so I may have to settle for just playing that.

Again, thanks for the comments. If anyone has further suggestions, please let me know. I really would like to be able to play IT online.

I love the game but it didnt do well in the market and the company went out of business. Good luck finding people to play with. I prefer SP myself.
