Well the other day I pulled out my SD630 and dropped it, now the lens mechanism is screwed.

I already have a Canon S2 IS which is kind of big to carry around at times. I got the SD630 to make up for that.

I was debating whether to get a SD750 (No IS) or an SD850 (IS)

Pros for the SD750 - My current batteries (NB-4L) will fit, and my case will most likely fit it

Pros for the SD850 - Image stabilization

But as I was looking at these cameras I came across the Canon A720 with IS. I know the A720 is a bit bigger than the SD series, but it has more features. Any of you have the A720 and find it easy to carry with you?

It has more features and I can also reuse my rechargeable AA's from my S2 IS. I'm just debating on whether the A720 might be too close to my S2 IS in features to make the SD750/850 seem more practical.

SD1100 IS

About $230 at multiple stores online. Most similar to your SD630 in size; uses the same NB-4L battery, and has built-in IS.

HMm the camera looks nice and I'll try to check it out in person, but honestly I'm a huge canon fan so that's what I prefer.

Well, you can be a fan of whatever you want, but the Fuji will outperform your old camera and every Canon in that price range. Are you just a brand loyalist? Why are you a huge Canon fan?

Because I like them? It's what I prefer, it's not really what this thread is intended to discuss.

I agree with punchkin's recommendation for the Fuji F50fd. It's the best camera in the ~$200 price range, particularly if you take a lot of pictures indoors or in low light situations.

If you want to stick with a Canon, I'd probably go with the SD1100 that jpeyton posted. It's a very good camera and it has the added benefit of letting you use the spare lithium batteries and SD memory cards you already have. Not having to buy spare batteries and memory cards is a big bonus and might make it the best option for you even if it isn't the very best camera available.

It's also smaller by a bit, heh. Every mm counts for me when it comes to portability. Which is why I'd argue against the A series.. it will kill your purpose for getting this.

Also, I'm disappointed in fuji and the F50fd.. the F31fd was great.. just a bit too big and lack of SD (I refuse to buy xD and memory sticks unless I absolutely have to...).

I am definitely going to look into the SD1100. It's great that I can re-use my extra NB-4L batteries/chargers as well as my canon case assuming the SD1100 is close to the same size as my SD630.

I am going to send my SD630 off to canon Monday to see what they say about it. At the worst it will cost be for the shipping charge. I'm just curious to see what they will charge me to fix it.

I'd really rather put this $200 towards the purchase of upgrading to a S5 IS if the canon repair isn't too expensive.

I'm not doubting the fuji can produce better high ISO pictures, but you should have picked two similar photos.

They've both got a fair amount of shadow detail in them. It's important to realize how unforgiving the Canon is, IMO.

BTW I am also disappointed in the f50fd. What Fuji should have done was make an even better 6MP camera, with stabilization, better low-light performance and a better design and other features. I just think the f50fd is the best value in that market segment.

The day camera manufacturers stop playing the megapixels game, the day I will scream in joy. My only gripe personally with the fuji is the size... I'm willing to sacrifice other things for ultra-portability. But that's a highly subjective matter to myself.

Ok, so canon gave a repair estimate of $107.

But, they also offered to sell me a refurbished SD750 for $100.

Good deal? I'd like to have IS but for $100 it is very tempting.
